Comedian Park Narae's abuse-of-power allegations have entered a new phase, and her expression in the final statement video is being reexamined.
Park Narae released her final statement video on the 16th of last month. In the 2-minute 23-second video, Park Narae said, "There are parts of the facts raised that need to be calmly verified, so legal procedures are underway. In that process, I will refrain from making additional public remarks or explanations. I judge that this matter should be objectively verified through official procedures, not be a problem of personal emotions or relationships," she said.
Park Narae said, "This choice is not to blame someone or assign responsibility but a decision to exclude emotions and personal judgments and leave it to procedures to sort out. Many stories are circulating now, but I do not want another person to be hurt or for it to turn into an unnecessary controversy," adding, "So I will stop all activities for the time being and take time to focus on sorting out this matter. I will reflect on my responsibility and attitude in my position. I will calmly leave issues that require time to the procedures. I thank the many people who cared for me, and to avoid creating further controversy I will not speak on related matters after this video," indicating she would not state her position until the matter is legally resolved.
Evaluations continued that Park Narae had made a misstep with the 2-minute 23-second video that contained no apology or explanation. In particular, some YouTube channels analyzed Park Narae's facial expressions and tone, saying, "Normally when starting an apology or explanation, the mouth opens slightly, but keeping the mouth closed and lifting the head means the risk management mode is already operating," "In a sincere apology the head and eyes lift together and the mouth is slightly open. Park Narae's downward-maintained apology is a pattern of pulling only the eyes up to look upward," and "Her expression is overall close to expressionless. It looks like she intentionally fixed her facial muscles in a neutral position. It leaves only words and not my expression or face; when revealing emotion could be damaging, this is a frequently chosen expression," among other analyses.
Afterward, despite allegations that she threw a glass at a former manager causing injury and leaks claiming she had sexual relations with her boyfriend in a car driven by the former manager, Park Narae did not state a clear position based on the 'final video statement,' leading to evaluations that it was a 'misstep,' but a reversal occurred recently when recorded phone conversations between Park Narae and the former managers were released.
In the recordings, the former manager A called Park Narae to check on her health but produced a conflicting stance the next day. In particular, A's statements about career and enrollment in the four major insurance programs also differed. The part introduced as "10 years of experience" referred to experience running an entertainment company but actual on-site manager experience was only two to three years, and regarding salary it was reported that A said, "You can reduce it more." It also emerged that for the four major insurances A insisted on a business income (freelancer) method that deducted only 3.3% tax.
As cracks in A's credibility began to appear, Park Narae's final statement was reexamined, and through that a ray of hope emerged for Park Narae's possible return. However, overall opinion is that a comeback is uncertain given the image damage from the abuse-of-power allegations and the remaining explanations and penalties related to the injection aunt.
