(Interview continued from ②) Actor Kim Eui-sung answered about the possibility of a fourth season of Taxi Driver.
Recently, at a café in Gangnam District, Seoul, an interview was held with Kim Eui-sung, a lead actor of the drama Taxi Driver 3.
Taxi Driver 3 is a so-called "private revenge agency" in which employees of Rainbow Transport, a taxi company run by Jang Seong-chul, the head of the crime victim support center
Asked about his feelings on the series finale that day, Kim Eui-sung said, "From the very start, viewers didn't simply like or dislike this drama. I strongly felt their support for the people appearing here. I think it was a significant emotional experience in the actors' lives. In that sense, I'm thankful," expressing gratitude to fans.
He continued, "Sometimes I feel I'm receiving more love than I deserve for what I do. Right now, it feels like when you have to part with a long-term lover because of circumstances and you pray, 'I hope this isn't the last time,'" he said with a laugh.
Based on the webtoon of the same name, Taxi Driver season 1 ranked fourth among preferred programs in May 2021 (first among dramas at the time), season 2 ranked first in April 2023, and season 3 also ranked first, making it a successful example of a seasonal drama.
Asked about the pressure from the successive series successes and returning for season 3, Kim Eui-sung said, "Because the previous seasons did so well, I thought it wouldn't be easy to follow them. We'll do our best. I thought that if we work hard, we could get an appropriate response. We talked a lot with the writer even during the planning and writing process. We discussed being somewhere between the first and second seasons," he said, adding, "Everyone worked so hard it was painful. I thought this would make it a season with no regrets."
He also answered about the possibility of season 4. Kim Eui-sung said cautiously, "It's hard for a series to continue on popularity alone. I'm not sure. Many things have to fall into place. And making a drama isn't easy. Earning money and reproducing it isn't easy. It's especially true for terrestrial network dramas. I think we're lucky enough that the members might want to continue the drama a bit longer."
When asked, "Have the actors talked about the next season?" he said, "Those conversations—rather. There's nothing particularly to be careful about. If someone brings it up and says, 'I don't think I can do it,' that would be a big problem, so I can't bring myself to ask. Implicitly with our eyes, there's a sense of 'let's meet again.' It feels like it's reached a level of not saying it out loud," he said, drawing attention.
