Former basketball player turned actor Oh Seung-hwan revealed the reason why he suddenly disappeared from public view.
On the 9th, a new video titled "the best choice that changed my life in an instant" was released on the YouTube channel "WeeRacle."
That day, guest Uni, who is active on TikTok, appeared and greeted the audience. He said, "I am Oh Seung-hwan, active as a live creator on TikTok. I used to work as an actor and model, but now I use a wheelchair and work as a live creator on TikTok," he explained.
Previously, Oh Seung-hwan was active across fields including modeling and acting, but at some point he suddenly disappeared. Afterwards he worked as a TikTok live creator and became a global star as Korea's No. 1 TikTok creator.
Park Wi asked if he could explain how Oh Seung-hwan ended up using a wheelchair, and Oh Seung-hwan said, "It's been about six years since I started using a wheelchair. It was winter. After finishing work and on the way home, I fell near a flowerbed in the apartment complex. At that time there were a lot of icy roads, so I fell backward onto the back of my neck," he revealed.
He continued, "After I was injured, the direction of my life changed a lot. I injured the fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae. The right side has improved quite a bit, but the left side is still like hemiplegia..."
In particular, Oh Seung-hwan said, "I generally did not post videos showing me in a wheelchair. I was concerned that people might see my painful condition and think 'he's using his pain to do broadcasts,' so I tried not to show that and carried on the broadcasts," he expressed.
Originally, Park Wi and Oh Seung-hwan had planned to move to chairs to conduct the interview, but on site they decided to do the interview while he remained in the wheelchair. In response, Oh Seung-hwan explained, "I finished preparing and came out, and he welcomed me so warmly while I was in the wheelchair that I didn't feel the need to move to a chair to do the interview. I want to open everything up this time."
Before his injury, Oh Seung-hwan had worked as an actor and model. He recalled, "Before that, I played basketball for about seven years. I remember preparing very hard for acting, but after the injury I felt like everything collapsed. At that time it was really hard to put into words; for about six months to a year after the injury I felt cut off from the world and said nothing, thinking to myself, 'Can I live like this?'"
He added, "As you know, hospitals turn out the lights early. They turn the lights on at dawn and tell you to eat. But I didn't get up until around 2 or 3 p.m. because dreaming felt better. In dreams I could run and I played a lot of basketball in my dreams," he confessed.
After his father's death, Oh Seung-hwan felt a financial sense of responsibility and reconsidered his career, and at a friend's recommendation he began life as a creator. As overseas viewers increased, he started using English, and he said a meeting came about when Thai star Panchan mentioned him.
Oh Seung-hwan said, "To be honest, I gained a lot of inspiration from watching your YouTube channel. I can do everything like you. I can live more joyfully than anyone. I want to give positive energy to people who have physical disabilities," he said, expressing his determination for the future.
