Thundercat·Mimi, return to their main careers side by side…after two years of marriage they start anew on "their own stages"
Independent label established·YouTube revival has fans saying "expecting couple synergy"
The group MBLAQ alumni Thundercat and Mimi announced their returns to their main careers side by side, signaling a new beginning. Congratulations and support are pouring in for the two, who made decisions in their respective fields two years after marriage.
On the 9th Thundercat posted a long message on his social media saying, "Although late, today I announce my new start." Since his 2009 debut he has balanced team activities, solo work and acting, marking his 16th year since debut, and he candidly revealed his identity struggles, saying, "As an idol I felt like 'I was not myself.'" He went on to say, "Leaving aside success and numbers, I have been on a journey of writing and releasing songs to find myself."
The conclusion of that journey was independence. Thundercat declared, "In June of this year I established MOOVE LABEL that fully embodies my thoughts," adding, "I will hustle properly with my real music, not an image crafted on hip-hop culture." In response, his wife Mimi immediately left a comment saying, "Thundercat fighting! Move Label fighting!" offering strong support.
On the same day Mimi also restarted her YouTube channel to announce her return to activities. She said on social media, "MimiHomepage YouTube has finally revived after three years," and added, "At the fan signing they asked to upload it even without subtitles, so I worked hard to make it. Still, I paid as much attention as possible to the subtitles." The released video contained footage from last year's year-end fan signing event.
Mimi confessed, "I was very nervous because a proper fan signing was my first in seven years. It was my first time doing one as a solo artist, so I was more anxious," but she smiled brightly, saying, "Once I saw the fans' faces I felt more at ease than I expected." She performed a live stage for the fans and said, "Meeting the fans was the best thing I did this year," promising, "I will meet them more often and work to create more events like this next year."
Fans' reactions have been heated over the duo's simultaneous comebacks. Messages such as "It's nice to see the couple growing in their respective positions," "The support and cheering from home look truly solid," and "Thundercat returned through music, Mimi returned through communication" followed. Support continued with comments like "Congratulations that both are starting anew after two years of marriage" and "Looking forward to the couple's synergy."
Before debut Thundercat became known as the younger brother of Sandara Park, and even after leaving the team in 2014 he continued his music activities steadily. Mimi is a former member of Gugudan, and in May 2024 the two married after five years of dating.
In their second year of marriage, Thundercat and Mimi stand again at the starting line on their respective stages. Interest is focused on the next chapter they will write as an artist and a creator beyond the framework of an "idol".
