Actor the late Ahn Sung-ki's son, Ahn Da-bin, released his father's letter.
On the afternoon of the 10th, Ahn Da-bin drew attention by posting a long letter left by the late Ahn Sung-ki on his social media. It was the same letter mentioned at the funeral service on the 9th.
The letter Ahn Da-bin released was written by the late Ahn Sung-ki in November 1993. The letter read, "Da-bin, on the day you were first born into this world, when I saw your face, which looked so much like me and was smaller than my fist, my eyes suddenly welled with tears. But seeing you have already grown this much and become so composed, your father has nothing in this world to envy."
Ahn Sung-ki then told his son, "Da-bin, what kind of person should you become next? Your father hopes you will always be humble and honest, have a broad heart that knows how to love others, do your best in your work, be punctual, and be someone who knows how to manage failure and sorrow with composure."
He added, "And above all, a man must not lose ambition and courage. In the face of any difficulty, do not lose yourself and keep challenging without end. Then you will see the path you should take."
Ahn Sung-ki wrote, "And always be glad that you have a younger brother, Philip, and be the kind of older brother who knows how to pray for him."
Finally, he conveyed his wishes, "My son Da-bin. Never forget that what is truly indispensable in this world is a 'good person.'"
The late Ahn Sung-ki died on the morning of the 5th at 9 a.m. while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with family at his side. He was 74. He received the Order of Cultural Merit, the highest grade being the Gold Crown, and a funeral Mass and farewell ceremony were held at Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul on the 9th.
