KBS2 'Immortal Songs' (directed by Kim Hyung-seok and Choi Seung-beom / hereinafter 'Immortal Songs') is the undisputed top music variety program that has continued its history for more than 700 episodes. The 739th episode, airing today (on the 10th), will feature the "2026 professional baseball special."
This special commemorates the milestone of domestic professional sports surpassing 12 million spectators and promises fans, ahead of the March 2026 professional baseball opening, laughter and emotion equivalent to a grand slam. Ten current and former baseball stars — Kim Byung-hyun, Park Yong-taek, Lee Dae-hyung, Jung Geun-woo, Hwang Jae-gyun, Yoo Hee-kwan, Choi Joo-hwan, Kim Tae-yeon, Jeon Sa-min and Lim Joon-hyung — will compete fiercely for the 'Immortal Songs' trophy.
Before the main stage, Park Yong-taek displays pride as a KBS baseball commentary commissioner. Introduced by MC Le Chanwon, Park Yong-taek smiles broadly and says, "I was selected as a 2026 WBC (World Baseball Classic) commentator and will work with Lee Dae-hyung once again." Lee Dae-hyung, who was Park Yong-taek's longtime roommate during their playing days and a close friend, also shows a proud smile, demonstrating their strong loyalty.
Younger baseball players spill anecdotes about the 'man of records' Park Yong-taek, drawing attention. Lim Joon-hyung admires, "When I saw senior Park Yong-taek as a ball boy, he was a star with a singular look and physique," and Choi Joo-hwan testifies to Park Yong-taek's exceptional presence, saying, "At the time he was so good that I didn't even want to hear his cheering song."
During a previous appearance on 'Immortal Songs,' Park Yong-taek performed his cheering song 'Natana.' Regarding that, Park Yong-taek recalled, "People said, 'When it comes to self-esteem, he's number one.'" He then revealed the song choice for this stage, saying, "So I told the 'Immortal Songs' writers that this time I would sing a song I can do well," surprising everyone. It is the signature number from the musical 'Notre-Dame de Paris' that requires tremendous vocal power, "The Age of the Cathedrals." MC Le Chanwon responded, "Wow," unable to close his mouth, and MC Kim Joon-hyun expressed anticipation, saying, "There is a musical tone in his voice. It suits him well."
On the reason for his song choice, Park Yong-taek said, "People say it's amazing when I sing this song at drinking gatherings. I consider myself a musical actor," showing confidence, while also softly adding with a smile, "But when I actually practiced, it was an extremely difficult song."
