Actor Jeon Jong-seo lamented the difficulty of action acting.
On the afternoon of Jan. 9, at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, an interview with actor Jeon Jong-seo for the film "Project Y" (provided by Plus M Entertainment, Pencher Invest Co., Ltd., distributed by Plus M Entertainment, planned by Wowpoint (WOWPOINT), Climax Studio, produced by Climax Studio, Wowpoint (WOWPOINT) | co-produced by Plus M Entertainment) was conducted.
The film "Project Y" is a work that depicts what happens when Miseon and Dokyung, who dreamed of a different tomorrow while living in the middle of a glamorous city, steal black money and gold bullion at the edge of their lives, and it opens on Jan. 21.
In this work, Jeon Jong-seo's action acting particularly caught the eye, and Jeon recalled, "Actress So-hee really felt the same, and I did too: we handle heat well but are weak in the cold, so fighting the cold was hard. Still, you have to do it. I think (the parts we filmed) are all captured."
Jeon also explained about the costumes in the work, "We had our costume team, and because So-hee and I have strong stylistic identities, a lot of what we pushed for was accepted. When looking at Dokyung and Miseon, I wanted these things to appear iconic. So we took a signature color and kept it minimal like a man with one suit."
He continued, "I said I wanted just a few outfits that would really stick in memory, so I brought a lot of red-based clothes, and So-hee brought clothes in her style. Because of that, instead of making sure the clothes were warm, we layered them; we gave up on some things, but tried to keep the style."
Meanwhile, as the digging to find the hidden black money of Boss To continued, Jeon revealed, "We dug all night, and that scene sparked the filming. That scene is my favorite scene; people asked if it was that brief. It was included for the whole film. I think it's a very impactful part, and because it's the turning point for finding the gold, we call it the 'Exhuma scene.'"
Jeon said, "The ground we actually dug during filming was dug much more than in the film scenes. We sweated a lot, the heat rose in an instant, so it felt right to take off clothes, and I thought it was appropriate to express sweat as part of the performance," adding, "Suddenly parallel parking and things like that I got help with, and for things that weren't, I drove. I'm not usually skilled; I can't find the destination well by looking at the navigation. I'm not good at that, and I don't drive as skillfully as Dokyung. So-hee is better at driving."
Regarding reviews saying the relationship with Kim Shin-rock in the work was explained poorly, Jeon said, "I thought there would be reviews saying the explanation was unkind. The character Gayoung is Dokyung's birth mother, and Miseon is not Gayoung's daughter. The mother's intention was to embrace the character Hwangso and die, wanting to collapse the whole system that bound Hwajung Market. I think that is a kind of liberation for calling me mother, even though she couldn't really be a mother. Senior Kim Shin-rock may have had intentions, but that's how I felt."
Jeon added, "And Miseon, the character, grew up in an orphanage without a family and was the only person who accepted her as a member of a family, someone she could call mother. Witnessing that person's death seems to make her break down completely."
