Jini TV original drama 'Jonbeo Doctor' (working title) acknowledged allegations of violating the 52-hour workweek law and apologized.
On the afternoon of the 9th, the production company The Studio M for 'Jonbeo Doctor' said, "First, we apologize for causing concern due to problems that occurred on the drama production site, and above all we sincerely apologize to the staff who did their best on site," and "The Studio M recognizes the issues raised regarding shooting hours seriously and, as a production company, intends to resolve them with a responsible attitude," the company said.
It added, "The production company has adjusted shooting schedules and reviewed operating methods to create an efficient production environment. In this process, we explained the situation to staff and collected their opinions considering the tight circumstances on set, but ultimately we feel a heavy responsibility as a production company for not having been sufficiently attentive to the actual shooting intensity and accumulated fatigue of the staff," it said.
It also promised, "The production company will faithfully comply with a 52-hour workweek for all future shooting schedules, and for shoots that exceeded 52 hours during already conducted shooting periods, we will actively consult with staff to achieve an amicable resolution," and "we will comprehensively reorganize the criticized on-site operating methods to create a safe production environment."
Earlier, the Hanbit Media Labor Human Rights Center claimed on the 8th that it had confirmed that excessively long working hours violating the 52-hour workweek were taking place on 'Jonbeo Doctor,' a Jini TV original drama scheduled to air on channel ENA.
According to the Hanbit Center, 'Jonbeo Doctor' conducted 63-hour workweeks for three consecutive weeks in December alone, and on-site staff were reported to be suffering from prolonged labor.
Meanwhile, the Jini TV original drama 'Jonbeo Doctor,' scheduled to be released in 2026 (directed by Lee Myeong-woo, written by Kim Ji-soo, planned by KT Studio Jini, produced by The Studio M), is a medical isolation romantic comedy about public health doctor Do Ji-eui (played by Lee Jae-wook), who lands on the notoriously avoided island of Pyeondongdo, and the secretive nurse Yuk Ha-ri (played by Shin Ye Eun).
Based on the popular webtoon 'Jonbeo Doctor' (writer Kim Tae-poong), serialized on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon, 'Jonbeo Doctor' is the next work by director Lee Myeong-woo, who directed 'Boyhood' and 'The Fiery Priest,' and is drawing attention for the meeting of Lee Jae-wook and Shin Ye Eun. Lee Jae-wook plays Do Ji-eui, an unlucky public health doctor assigned to a remote island village, and Shin Ye Eun plays Yuk Ha-ri, a nurse who appears with a mysterious backstory.
