AOA alum Kwon Mina, who was dramatically rescued after attempting suicide on New Year's Day, ultimately had her fan meeting canceled.
Kwon Mina, who debuted in 2012 as a member of the group AOA, drew sympathy by claiming she was bullied by members after leaving the team in 2019. However, she later faced criticism as controversies arose over allegations of nurse bullying, pressure to have a sequential breakup, apologies via social media live broadcasts, and questions about the sincerity of her explanations.
After working as a dermatology consultation deputy minister and returning to daily life, Kwon Mina signed an exclusive contract with Modenberry Korea and announced her first solo fan meeting in her life. She also drew attention as the niece of the head of a major domestic tteokbokki franchise and said she would release a carol recording in January 2026 with trainee Ha Min-gi, who is set to debut in the boy group Air100, signaling a green light for activities.
However, it was revealed that her exclusive contract was terminated less than a month after it was signed. The planned music project with Ha Min-gi was scrapped, leaving regret, but organizers reassured fans by saying the first solo fan meeting would proceed as scheduled.
Preparing diligently for the fan meeting, Kwon Mina attempted suicide on the first day of 2026 and was dramatically rescued. On the 1st she said, "I am truly grateful to everyone who treated me kindly, loved me and treated me like a human being, and I am also sorry.. I hope everyone lives a long, happy, pleasant life with a harmonious family atmosphere. I am sorry," and she attempted suicide but was dramatically rescued.
After being rescued, Kwon Mina posted a lengthy message that raised concern, describing her father's domestic violence during her childhood, extreme financial hardship, group assault and sexual violence during her adolescence, and bullying by fellow members during her idol activities. Concern continued after OSEN's reporting revealed that she had unilaterally canceled scheduled appearances before attempting suicide.
Kwon Mina's side declared war on malicious commenters. Her representatives said, "Recently, malicious slander, personal attacks in comments and spreading false information directed at Ms. Kwon Mina have been occurring continuously on social media. We consider this a clear illegal act, are collecting related evidence and will proceed with strong legal action without leniency," suggesting that beyond Kwon Mina's tragic story there had been excessive malicious comments by online trolls.
After recovering her health while resting at home, Kwon Mina had planned to proceed with the fan meeting as scheduled but ultimately canceled it. OSEN reporting on the 8th found that Kwon Mina's first solo fan meeting, which had been scheduled to be held on the 23rd at H-Stage in Seogyo-dong, Mapo District, Seoul, was unavoidably canceled due to artist circumstances. The organizers apologized deeply for the inconvenience caused by the sudden cancellation and said purchased tickets would be fully refunded.
