Actor the late Ahn Sung-ki arrived at Myeongdong Cathedral for the farewell ceremony.
Today (the 9th) from 8 a.m., a funeral mass and a memorial service for film professionals for the late Ahn Sung-ki were held at Myeongdong Cathedral in Jung-gu, Seoul. In keeping with the wishes of the late Ahn Sung-ki, who was a devout Catholic, actor Jung Woosung and director Bae Chang-ho, co-funeral directors, delivered eulogies.
The hearse arrived at Myeongdong Cathedral at about 7:40 a.m. that day, and the deceased was surrounded by family members and colleagues and juniors from the film industry.
Jung Woosung carried the portrait of the late Ahn Sung-ki, and Lee Jung-jae stood beside him holding the medal. Actors Sul Kyung-gu, Yoo Ji-tae, Park Chul-min, Park Hae-il, Cho Woo-jin and Ju Jihoon took part in the procession.
Also attending the funeral mass that day were director Im Kwon-taek, actor Hyunbin and Byun Yo-Han, who accompanied the late Ahn Sung-ki on his final path.
Ahn Sung-ki died on the morning of the 5th at 9 a.m. while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with his family watching. He was 74. The late figure was diagnosed with hematologic cancer in 2019 and was declared cured the following year, but the disease later recurred and he continued to battle it.
The funeral was conducted as a film industry funeral organized by the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation and The Korea Film Actors Association. After the funeral mass that day, a memorial service for film professionals will be solemnly held from 9 a.m.
The late Ahn Sung-ki received the Order of Cultural Merit, gold crown, the highest grade of the cultural medal.
