Actor the late Ahn Sung-ki's family and colleagues say their final goodbyes as he rests in peace.
Today (the 9th) from 8 a.m., a funeral Mass and farewell ceremony for the late Ahn Sung-ki were held at Myeongdong Cathedral in Jung-gu, Seoul. At around 7:40 a.m. that day, the hearse arrived at Myeongdong Cathedral, and family members and senior and junior figures from the film industry escorted the late Ahn Sung-ki on his final journey.
Actor Jung Woosung carried the memorial portrait of the late Ahn Sung-ki, and Lee Jung-jae held the medal as they stood side by side. Also, actors Sul Kyung-gu, Yoo Ji-tae, Park Cheol-min, Park Hae-il, Jo Woo-jin, and Ju Jihoon served as pallbearers and stood with the family.
From 8 a.m., a funeral Mass was held to escort the late Ahn Sung-ki on his final journey and offer farewells. It honored the wishes of the deceased, who was a devout Catholic, and actor Jung Woosung and director Bae Chang-ho, co-funeral chairmen, delivered eulogies. Directors Im Kwon-taek, actors Hyunbin and Byun Yo-Han, Jung Jun-ho, Kim Na-woon, Yoo In-chon, An Jaewook, singer Bada and other film industry colleagues attended and paid their respects.
After the subsequent farewell ceremony concluded, past 9 a.m., the late Ahn Sung-ki left Myeongdong Cathedral and began his final journey to rest in peace. Returning with the memorial portrait and the medal, Jung Woosung and Lee Jung-jae walked quietly with solemn expressions. Pallbearers including Sul Kyung-gu and Yoo Ji-tae followed behind with heavy hearts. Expressions of family members trying to hold back tears were also captured.
After the farewell ceremony, the late Ahn Sung-ki will be buried at Byeolgeurida in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
The late Ahn Sung-ki, who had been battling a recurrence of blood cancer, passed away on the morning of the 5th at around 9 a.m. while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with his family by his side. He was 74. He had been taken to the hospital on the 30th of last month after collapsing at home with food lodged in his throat; after being treated in an unconscious state, he died six days later.
His wife, Oh So-young, and his two sons were listed as the chief mourners, while Jung Woosung and Lee Jung-jae, as heads of the late man's last agency, Artist Company, received visitors together. The funeral was conducted as a film industry funeral organized by the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation and The Korea Film Actors Association, and he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, Geumgwan (Gold Crown) in recognition of his contributions to the development of culture and the arts.
