Younger actors who accompanied the late Ahn Sung-ki on his final journey spoke about their feelings.
On the 9th, SBS specially scheduled a special documentary titled "The man who was always there, actor Ahn Sung-ki."
Ahn Sung-ki passed away on the 5th. He was 74. After a farewell ceremony this morning (the 9th), the funeral, held as a five-day film industry funeral, was attended by Cho Yong-pil, director Im Kwon-taek, Lee Jung-jae, Jung Woosung, Park Joong-hoon, Han Suk-kyu and numerous seniors and juniors in the film industry and figures from various fields who came to see the master off. In particular, younger actors such as Sul Kyung-gu, Park Chul-min, Park Hae-il, Yoo Ji-tae, Cho Woo-jin, and Ju Jihoon directly participated in carrying the coffin, and filmmakers mourned the deceased and reflected on the life he lived as a filmmaker for his entire life.
Among them, Park Chul-min joined the coffin carrying at the request of the bereaved family. Park Chul-min recalled, "At the funeral home, the widow firmly held my hand and said, 'You were remembered and supported so much, so please help carry the coffin,' and I choked up. She still remembers senior and loves me. I wanted to send him off from the closest spot, even from the very last position."
He, who debuted as a child actor at the age of only five and appeared in more than 170 films over 69 years, was the history of Korean cinema. Ahn Sung-ki was part of Korean cinema from its dark ages through rapid growth to its golden age.
In the process, he was especially warm to younger actors. Jeong Jae-young recalled, "In the mid-1990s, when I had just started in films as an extra, that?? It was the first time I met senior Ahn Sung-ki. I came prepared with ad-libs saying I would try hard. But senior Ahn encouraged me, saying it was fun and to keep it alive, giving me courage."
Park Chul-min also remembered his past with Ahn Sung-ki, saying, "It was a scene where I was rough with a billiard cue, but during rehearsal I couldn't do it properly, so he told me, 'In this scene you and I are the leads, go ahead and do what you prepared, let it out, let's do it like friends.'"
About Ahn Sung-ki's warm and upright character, Jeong Jae-young said, "Thinking about it quietly, wouldn't it be because he loved so much? Because he loved so much, he seemed not to treat it as work."
Park Chul-min choked up, saying, "I regret not being more thankful for the love I received, not returning more from what I had, and I feel sorry about that. So I want to vow to share even one-hundredth or one-thousandth of it with younger people who love films."
