Netflix confirmed production of a new series tentatively titled "Beauty in the Beast" and announced the casting of Kim Min-ju, Lomon, and Moon Sang Min.
Netflix confirmed production of a new series titled "Beauty in the Beast" and revealed a casting lineup of rookie actors including Kim Min-ju, Lomon, and Moon Sang Min. "Beauty in the Beast" is a youth fantasy romance that depicts the story of "Minsu," who harbors the secret of turning into a wolf, meeting college senior "Haejun" and wolf boy "Doha."
"Beauty in the Beast" depicts the chaotic campus story that unfolds when werewolf "Minsu" enters university. To avoid turning into a wolf, "Minsu" has lived suppressing emotions and actions, was thoroughly trained from childhood to socialize successfully, and upon entering university encounters a new world.
Director Jin Hyuk, who won public affection for delicate character portrayals and sensuous visuals in the dramas The Tale of Lady Ok, Sisyphus: The Myth, and The Legend of the Blue Sea, will direct, and writer Jin Han-sae, who showed bold prose, sharp insight, and original storytelling in Netflix series Extracurricular and Glitch, will write the script. Jin Han-sae, who has captivated global viewers with fresh stories alongside Netflix, draws attention as to what new material she will bring this time. Adding credibility, Studio 329, which is producing the anticipated project How to Become a Building Owner in Korea and has presented many notable works including the Netflix series Extracurricular and the drama Crime Puzzle, will produce the series.
The fresh casting lineup of "Beauty in the Beast" is also noteworthy. Kim Min-ju, who showed diverse charms through the film Hear Me: Our Summer and the dramas Undercover High School and Connection, will play the role of the girl who turns into a wolf, "Ha Minsu." "Minsu," who has always suppressed herself because her ability must never be revealed to anyone, is a curious girl who has many things she wants to do and many places she wants to visit, and dreams of an ordinary life.
The role of "Haejun," Minsu's college senior, will be played by Moon Sang Min, who has been steadily building his filmography in the dramas Cinderella at 2am, Wedding Impossible, and Under The Queen's Umbrella. Despite a sullen face and sharp gaze that make a frightening first impression, "Haejun," nicknamed "big dog," has a gentle side; though usually uninterested in others, he finds himself oddly fixated on Minsu, who behaves strangely only in front of him.
Lomon, who proved his presence in works such as the Netflix series All of Us Are Dead and the dramas Family Matters and Brand in Seongsu-dong, will play the free-spirited werewolf "Doha." "Doha," who acts without hesitation when he wants to do something, finds Minsu—who suppresses her emotions and lives differently from him—both frustrating and oddly intriguing.
With production confirmed and a casting lineup of promising actors who combine individuality and acting ability, "Beauty in the Beast" will be released on Netflix.
