Singer and actress Son Dam-bi opened up about her feelings regarding the moniker "monthly rent of 10 million won" that follows her, and ultimately revealed her moving plans herself.
On the 7th, a video titled "Son Dam-bi, Sul Dam-bi's abstinent life suffering from club perfume nostalgia" was released on the YouTube channel Noppakku Tak Jae-Hoon. That day Son Dam-bi appeared as a guest and spoke candidly about her recent life and various misunderstandings.
That day Tak Jae-Hoon mentioned Son Dam-bi's signature song "Michyeosseo" and opened the conversation by saying, "I heard royalties exceeded 10 billion won." In response Son Dam-bi drew a line with a laugh, saying, "That's not all mine, is it?" When questions about her income continued, she recalled, "I did earn a lot. I also did a lot of commercials."
But the mood soon shifted to the remark "monthly rent of 10 million won." When Tak Jae-Hoon asked, "Then why are you still living in a rental?" Son Dam-bi bowed her head and self-deprecatingly said, "It's maddening. I should tear my mouth open," drawing laughter. She said, "Every time an article runs the headline always includes 'monthly rent of 10 million won,'" and lamented, "So it's really hard."
Son Dam-bi said the remark came from a friend's YouTube home tour content and regretted, "They asked if it was a jeonse or owned, and I foolishly said 'monthly rent of 10 million won,' and that was the start," adding, "Since then, 'monthly rent of 10 million won' always precedes my name." She expressed frustration, saying, "There are reasons for where one lives. But you can't explain all of that, can you?"
Ultimately Son Dam-bi revealed the timing of her move herself. She said, "The contract ends so I'm moving in February," and when asked further about her residence she drew the line by saying, "I'll make no comment." She especially lamented, "Because of this I even heard from my in-laws, 'Are you paying monthly rent of 10,000?'" and said, "It's so unfair that only that phrase attaches to my title."
Earlier Son Dam-bi had reported she was living in a monthly-rent home in Itaewon in the 10 million won range and had begun preparing to move. Meanwhile she married former national speed skater Lee Gyu-hyeok in 2022, and after in vitro fertilization succeeded in becoming pregnant, she welcomed a daughter in April this year.
Instead of the fragmentary label "monthly rent of 10 million won," attention is focusing on Son Dam-bi's next steps as a mother of a family and someone facing a new life.
