Jaedam Media (CEO Hwang Nam-yong) and the cultural department of the Embassy of France in Korea jointly launched Korea's first French webtoon contest, "FrenchToon Selection," opening the official teaser page on the 7th and kicking off the full schedule.
"FrenchToon Selection" is a Korea-France cooperation program that introduces webtoons by local French creators to Korean readers and selects outstanding works to support their entry into the Korean market.
Among the works submitted by French webtoon creators, 10 pieces representing the richness and diversity of French webtoon creation were finally selected, and these works will be translated into Korean and made available for free on Jaedam Media's short-form webtoon platform, "Jaedam Shorts," from March 1 to May 31, 2026.
During the public release period, the work that receives the most support from Korean readers will sign an official licensing contract and receive support for serialization and distribution in Korea.
France is a country with a deep comic culture and creative tradition, to the point of calling comics the "ninth art," and recently French-style webtoon creation using the Korean webtoon format has been actively continuing. "FrenchToon Selection" is a focused spotlight program that introduces this new trend in French webtoon creation to Korean readers for the first time.
The teaser page for "FrenchToon Selection" opened on Jaedam Shorts from 10 a.m. on the 7th, and from March 1 it can be found on a dedicated tab, "FrenchToon Selection," on the Jaedam Shorts platform and the official website.
Through this, readers will be able to gradually encounter the program's world through the selected works and creator introductions released sequentially each week, and key visual elements associated with the works. This program is part of cultural exchange activities commemorating the 140th anniversary of Korea-France diplomatic relations.
