'Lost name, Han Hye-gyeong'…Kkokkomu shines a light on the 'fan aunt' 7 years later
The late Han Hye-gyeong, known as the 'fan aunt,' who sadly died about seven years ago, is being highlighted once again.
Tails of Tales, which airs at 10:20 p.m. on the 8th on SBS (hereafter Kkokkomu), with the theme 'Lost name, Han Hye-gyeong,' tells the story of Han Hye-gyeong, who was known to the public as the 'fan aunt,' focusing on her life after illegal cosmetic surgery and her human story.
On the broadcast, actor Kim Hee-jeong, Bae Myung-jin and film director Bang Eun-jin appear as listeners. In particular, Park So-hyun adds significance by directly recounting the aftermath of the 'fan aunt' episode from SBS's Moment of Capture: Amazing Stories in This World, where she served as an MC for 27 years and the episode recorded a 31% viewership and drew great attention.
The late Han Hye-gyeong was a figure who once performed under the stage name 'Han Mi-ok.' However, driven by a desire to become a more intense, charismatic singer, she repeatedly underwent illegal cosmetic surgery, which severely deformed her face. She experienced auditory and visual hallucinations and eventually injected industrial silicone, paraffin oil, soybean oil and other substances into her own face.
After appearing on Moment of Capture: Amazing Stories in This World in 2004, she became a symbolic figure warning of the dangers of illegal cosmetic procedures and cosmetic addiction. Following the broadcast, she underwent multiple foreign substance removals and reconstructive surgeries, and in 2013, through various broadcasts and documentaries, she showed a reconstructed appearance, found a job and shared that she was living a new life, receiving much support.
However, the late Han Hye-gyeong suddenly passed away on Dec. 15, 2018, at the age of 57. The exact cause of death was not disclosed, and the funeral was reportedly held quietly under the direction of the bereaved family.
On Kkokkomu, the program deeply examines why she felt compelled to repeatedly choose illegal cosmetic surgery and spotlights the lesser-known human life of Han Hye-gyeong. Although she was born beautiful, her desperate wish to become a singer and the reality that her face had swollen so much that even her mother could not recognize her evoke listeners' sympathy. Kim Hee-jeong said, "It seems her life was so hard because of the side effects," conveying a heavy heart.
In particular, on this broadcast, the late Han Hye-gyeong's sister and her spouse appear in person and for the first time will tell how hard the younger sister worked to become a singer. Park So-hyun said, "Watching her challenge herself to find her lost dream again, I cheered for her as if it were my own matter," expressing sincere sentiments.
The life of a woman once consumed under the name 'fan aunt.' Kkokkomu quietly but deeply revisits the story of the person Han Hye-gyeong who was hidden behind that name.
