'Spring Fever' male lead Seon Jae-gyu is creating an unusual atmosphere on home screens.
The tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Spring Fever' (directed by Park Won-guk, written by Kim Ah-jung), which premiered on the 5th, depicted Seon Jae-gyu (Ahn Bo-hyun) — a man with a burning heart — straightforwardly pursuing teacher Yoon Bom (Lee Joo-been), who gives off a cold breeze, thereby hitting the tastes of viewers at home.
Seon Jae-gyu, a person of concern who stirs the village with outrageous behavior, in episode 1 unleashed his straight-forward instincts with the blunt line "mi.in" toward Yoon Bom, the homeroom teacher of his nephew Seon Han-gyeol (Cho Junyoung). He also wildly pounded viewers' hearts with unpredictable actions such as vaulting over a house wall to open the door for Yoon Bom, who could not get into the house. Contrary to his large build and rough first impression reminiscent of back alleys, his reverse charms stood out as the story progressed and drew attention.
Seon Jae-gyu headed straight for Yoon Bom and offered a different kind of flutter. Even for Yoon Bom, who simply called a name, he assigned meaning to each of her actions with lines like "She comes, Bom-ee—now the name has taken!" with his crude romantic sincerity, stealing Yoon Bom's spirit and making viewers excited. In particular, at the end of episode 2, Seon Jae-gyu's scene of sprinting at full speed to catch up with the subway Yoon Bom was on, reminiscent of a cartoon, left a strong impact.
The relationship between Seon Jae-gyu, like a "spear" that pierces anything, and Yoon Bom, like a "shield" that blocks anything, hints at a peculiar narrative, and at its center Ahn Bo-hyun's acting, who embodied the Seon Jae-gyu character, shone. With a natural Busan dialect and an overwhelming physical presence, Ahn Bo-hyun delivered character sync of over 200%, making home screens swoon. Ahn Bo-hyun's full immersion in the Seon Jae-gyu character makes viewers look forward to future developments even more.
Armed with the straightforward charm of a rough romantic, the Seon Jae-gyu character has established himself as a new romantic comedy male lead who brings warmth to the cold winter within the first week of broadcast. After the broadcast, viewers poured out heated reactions such as "What kind of character is this? It's really funny," "Ahn Bo-hyun just popped out of the webtoon," "I'm bewitched by director Park Won-guk again!," "The stories are all my taste. I like the rural setting even more," "I think I've already been wrapped up by Seon Jae-gyu," "What about a male lead who wears a tattoo sleeve given to him with a functional T-shirt," and "Seon Jae-gyu only does the right things. The reverse charm is crazy."
