Production company TEO is launching a new web entertainment show called "Sik-deokhu" featuring chef Choi Kang-rok.
"Sik-deokhu," which will premiere on TEO's YouTube channel at 6 p.m. on the 12th (Monday), is a deep-dive taste-obsession exploration in which Choi Kang-rok searches for Japanese ingredients and digs into them like an enthusiast. With Choi Kang-rok's quirky and "fanlike" perspective, he plans to embark on a journey toward a variety of ingredients.
Chef Choi Kang-rok began cooking after being inspired by the manga "Mr. Sushi King," and after winning MasterChef Korea 2 he has attracted attention as an unpredictable, drama-like life story. Despite his introverted personality, his frank and unique way of speaking has created numerous memes such as "It's me, sesame oil," and after appearing on "Culinary Class Wars" season 1, he proved his presence again in season 2 by appearing as a hidden White Spoon and reaching the top two finalists.
"Sik-deokhu" draws attention in part because it is the first content Choi Kang-rok has presented since "Culinary Class Wars 2," and he has emerged as one of Korea's hottest chefs. Having fallen for sushi and even studied abroad in Japan, Chef Choi Kang-rok has a deep knowledge of Japanese food culture, and through "Sik-deokhu" he is expected to showcase the true essence of devoted taste exploration.
The teaser released today (the 8th) grabs attention with a scene of Chef Choi Kang-rok answering the question, "Chef, are you an otaku?" Chef Choi Kang-rok immediately denied it, saying, "No," but revealed a distinct "fan" streak, saying, "When I get hooked on an animation, I like to watch them in a row. I'm rewatching 'Vagabond' and reminiscing while watching." He brought up favorite characters from "Slam Dunk" and "Demon Slayer," and said, "I've been jogging lately and I'm practicing the scene from 'Attack on Titan' where they run angrily," even demonstrating arm movements, which drew laughs.
At the end of the teaser the question "So the chef is not an otaku?" reappears, and Choi Kang-rok trailed off, saying, "I am... just...," leaving viewers curious. Even in a short video, Chef Choi Kang-rok showed a deeper-than-anyone-else "fan" side, increasing interest in how he will display the ultimate "taste-obsession" on "Sik-deokhu."
The poster released with the teaser also fuels curiosity about the main show. The poster cleverly depicts Chef Choi Kang-rok exploring Japanese streets for taste obsession. Known for calling himself "a braised human of desire" to express his obsessive side, this time Chef Choi Kang-rok has completely transformed into a "fish human," which also draws attention. Along with the poster's comic-like unique atmosphere, the phrase "I obsess over this taste" shows the identity of "Sik-deokhu" and raises expectations.
"Sik-deokhu" is scheduled to be produced in six episodes, and the first episode will be released on YouTube TEO at 6 p.m. on Jan. 12 (Monday).
