Disney has finally finalized the casting for the live-action film Rapunzel (Tangled). While model Gigi Hadid even auditioned, the role of Rapunzel went to a rising Australian actress.
On the 8th (local time), The Hollywood Reporter said that in the live-action Rapunzel, Rapunzel will be played by actress Teagan Croft (Teagan Croft, 21). Milo Manheim (Milo Manheim, 24) was cast as Flynn Rider.
This project is based on the 2010 animated Rapunzel. At that time, the voices of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider were respectively Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, who were widely loved.
Disney released plans for the live-action adaptation at the end of 2024 and then spent months deliberating over casting. In particular, Gigi Hadid drew attention last year when she said in an interview that she auditioned for Rapunzel. She said she even took vocal lessons to prepare and noted, "I was pretty proud of my audition scene."
Among fans, Sabrina Carpenter was mentioned as a strong contender. Her background as a Disney Channel alum and a Halloween costume inspired by Rapunzel raised expectations, but the final choice was Teagan Croft.
Direction will be handled by director Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, and the screenplay will be written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The rest of the casting, including the villain Mother Gothel, has not yet been announced.
At one point production was put on hold due to the poor box office performance of the live-action Snow White, but it resumed in earnest after the live-action Lilo & Stitch succeeded at the box office. Attention is focused on how Disney will reinvent another classic animated film.
Meanwhile, Teagan Croft gained recognition for her role as Rachel Ross/Raven in the HBO series Titans, and Milo Manheim rose to popularity through the Disney Channel movie Zombies series. Eyes are on whether the new Rapunzel and Flynn Rider pairing can meet global fans' expectations.<
