Singer Chuu (CHUU) explained the reason she chose the keyword "AI" for her first full-length album.
Chuu met with reporters on the 7th at a cafe in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, for a release interview for her first full-length album "XO, My Cyberlove."
Chuu's first full-length album "XO, My Cyberlove" is an album that delicately captures the "changes in relationships" in an era where reality and virtuality overlap, and it previews a modern love story that interprets forms of love conveyed through digital signals with Chuu's distinctive vocals and sensibility.
After debuting with the girl group Loona, Chuu began full-scale activities as a solo singer by releasing her first solo mini album "Howl" on Oct. 18, 2023, and she honed her musical colors by releasing mini album 2 "Strawberry Rush" on June 25, 2024, and "Only Cry in the rain" on Apr. 21, 2025. "XO, My Cyberlove" is significant in that it is the first solo full-length album Chuu is releasing on her 10th anniversary since debut.
Chuu said about choosing AI as the keyword for her first full-length album, "AI is a hot topic, and it's scary because it's hard to distinguish. There are parts we have to adapt to, but when I thought about how our ways of loving are changing to fit the AI era, I felt we are already doing it. I think the act of sending emojis and texts itself is sufficiently an expression of love. It seems we are even doing it more. I think emoticons and images fully contain what I want to express. From AI's point of view, it's a view of love, but the feelings appear in the emotions of people who love and feel, so read from AI's perspective, it's a sad song. I felt there weren't many songs set against the AI era or the digital era, so I enjoyed singing it," she said.
She continued, "As the album title is 'XO, My Cyberlove,' I think the way people share love has changed in the AI and digital era. People used to convey love through skinship, emotional expression, and voice, but in the digital era, love is expressed with text instead of words, with emojis instead of emotional expression, and with videos. That kind of change in the era of giving and receiving love is the background of this album. It shows various forms of love around us, including the ways love has changed to fit the digital era, with different directions for each song," she added.
Another keyword along with AI is "love." Chuu said, "The feeling I usually like most is love, and I think love is an emotion anyone has felt at least once or will feel throughout their life. I think even things floating in the air are love, and making that mine to use as motivation is an interesting process. Since love is an indispensable existence for people to live, I wanted to capture that perspective," she said.
So what is Chuu's style of love like? Chuu said, "I like a love that gives without holding back. Whether that person is family, a friend, or a member, I want to love without calculating. The moment you calculate, it doesn't feel like love but an act waiting for an answer, so when I feel the feeling of liking someone, I give freely and don't look back — that's what I pursue in love," adding, "Maybe because I'm the eldest daughter, I hear a lot that 'she loves like a mother.' Friends even ask if I feel maternal instinct. I said that in jest, but I do want to do things for others. I like to make things and give gifts. I tend to be excessively kind to people I like. Still, it's not that people around me just receive one-sidedly, so the mutual relationships are good," she said.
