The blockbuster boxing survival show tvN I AM BOXER (director Lee Won-woong, writer Kang Sook-kyung) will change its broadcast time to 8:30 p.m. starting with episode 8 on the 9th, offering even more dopamine-filled matchups, and director Lee Won-woong personally shared the viewing points for the latter half.
Director Lee Won-woong said, "If the matches so far were held in confined spaces with no audience at all, from the quarterfinals onward the full-scale boxing matches will take place in front of audiences that can number in the thousands. I believe sports, especially boxing, show their true form when they take place in front of spectators," and added, "It will be more enjoyable if you pay attention to whether the fighters who advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals and final show better performances in front of the audience."
He also said that many celebrities would join as audience members. "Don Lee has extensive connections in both the entertainment industry and the boxing world, so many celebrities have come to watch starting from the quarterfinals. We invited Korea's boxing legends, entertainment stars who enjoy boxing as a hobby, and world-class fighters," and he explained, "It was impressive to see Don Lee introduce boxing legends such as Park Jong-pal and Yoo Myung-woo to the general audience when introducing celebrities. That's something only someone who truly loves boxing could do."
Meanwhile, quarterfinalist Cho Hyun announced ring names: 'Pretty Boy,' Lee Chae-hyun 'Prince,' Kwon O-gon 'Thunder,' Lee Ki-joon 'Striker,' Hong Seong-min 'Tyson,' Guk Seung-jun 'Body Killer,' Kim Hyun-jun 'Shotgun,' and Yuk Jun-seo 'Blaze.' The quarterfinals, in which winners are decided by one-on-one official boxing matches, were conducted under a 3-minute, 6-round format. In the first match, Guk Seung-jun and Kim Hyun-jun finished the final round despite exhausted stamina through sheer will, and Guk Seung-jun secured advancement to the semifinals.
Director Lee Won-woong said, "From the quarterfinals, the boxers created their own ring names and prepared distinctive costumes and props, so it will be more exciting. Because these are boxing matches of six rounds or more, you can enjoy not only the exchange of punches but also the strategic battles as fighters respond to the extended rounds," adding interest to the epic fights among top boxers with diverse styles.
In addition, special matches as exciting as the main bouts and performances by global star idols are planned for the semifinals and final. "We tried to offer more diverse content to the audience and viewers beyond simply presenting sports," he said, previewing novel attractions that are drawing attention.
He added, "Kim Jong Kook and Dex personally selected eliminated contestants they wanted to see again and prepared special matches. The special matches include the return of legendary fighters that I AM BOXER fans will love and dream matchups that couldn't occur under the survival structure. There were scenes where thousands of spectators chanted a fighter's name and actor Don Lee gave a standing ovation," a surprise spoiler that is increasing viewers' desire to watch through the final episode.
