The crime entertaining movie Project Y, which opens on Jan. 21, has teased an OST completed with the distinctive sensibility of music director GRAY, and anticipation is further rising with the pre-release of tracks.
The stylish crime entertaining movie Project Y, which will open the door to 2026 (director Lee Hwan, provided by Plus M Entertainment·Pencher Invest Co., distributor Plus M Entertainment, planned by Wowpoint (WOWPOINT)·Climax Studio, produced by Climax Studio·Wowpoint (WOWPOINT), co-produced by Plus M Entertainment), tells the story of Miseon and Dokyung, who dreamed of a different tomorrow while living in the heart of a glittering city, and end up stealing black money and gold bullion at the edge of their lives. The film's opening insert song, Hwasa's "FOOL FOR YOU," pre-released on Jan. 4, allowed listeners to instantly feel the film's stylish mood, drawing attention, and OSTs featuring Kim Wan Sun, Ahn Shin-ae are also scheduled to be pre-released sequentially, concentrating interest.
Music director GRAY said that when he first read Project Y's script he was struck by how musically the characters' emotions sounded, and he focused on making the music serve as an important device that would carry the characters' inner lives and narratives together.
He said that for songs featuring artists' vocals, "I wanted each vocal track to function not as a simple insert but as an emotional device within the film. So genre selection also depended on what emotional state the scene and character were in. I focused on balancing melody, lyrics and vocal tone so they could breathe naturally with the scene." The selection of artists was also discussed based on voices that could most convincingly express the characters' emotions, and the Project Y OST lineup was completed with artists such as Hwasa, Kim Wan Sun, Ahn Shin-ae, Debita and Hoody.
Hwasa's "FOOL FOR YOU," which was pre-released on Jan. 4 and received high interest as the film's opening track, blends a soft yet intense musical mood with Hwasa's uniquely attractive timbre to immediately aid immersion into the film. As music director GRAY's praise that "Hwasa had a thorough and perfect understanding of the song's emotional interpretation" attests, Hwasa's "FOOL FOR YOU" has drawn heated reactions such as "so moving," "jazz Hwasa is here," "this vibe suits her so well," and "jazz is insane," despite being only partially pre-released.
Following the hot response, the track to be pre-released on Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. is Kim Wan Sun's "Pado". "Pado," which resonates over the film's glamorous city nightscape, is the song that best reflects Project Y's message and penetrates the film's sentiment, and Kim Wan Sun's deep voice will intertwine with the characters' narratives to amplify the lingering impression. Music director GRAY, who felt that Kim Wan Sun's unique beauty and aura matched the film well, said, "I thought she added depth to the song beyond mere participation, and as expected a very special and valuable result emerged," raising expectations further.
Additionally, Ahn Shin-ae's "MAN IN THE SKY," to be pre-released on Jan. 18 at 2 p.m., is the film's ending song and a soul R&B track that seems to condense Project Y's intense energy. GRAY said, "Ahn Shin-ae expressed beyond what was expected with soulful energy," and Ahn Shin-ae's "MAN IN THE SKY," which showcases her powerful vocals, will serve to wrap up the film's relentlessly driven narrative and emotions in music, captivating audiences.
