The late actor Ahn Sung-ki's eldest son, artist Ahn Da-bin, announced a public mourning space.
On the 6th, Ahn Da-bin posted on his personal social media along with a photo of his father during his lifetime, saying, "The Seoul Metropolitan Government has provided a memorial space for the public at the Seoul Film Center in Chungmuro."
He added, "From today (the 6th) until the 8th, anyone can freely pay their respects. Following yesterday (the 5th), I thank you for conveying your condolences again today."
The Seoul Film Center will operate the deceased's memorial space until 6 p.m. on the 8th. At this venue, anyone remembering "actor Ahn Sung-ki" can leave a final farewell to the deceased through condolence visits.
Ahn Sung-ki debuted in 1957 as a child actor and over more than 60 years appeared in nearly 200 films, beloved as a "national actor." He was rushed to the emergency room of Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Seoul in a state of cardiac arrest on the 30th of last month and was treated in the intensive care unit. However, he never regained consciousness and passed away around 9 a.m. on the morning of the 5th, six days after hospitalization, with family members at his bedside.
Because the deceased served as chairman of the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation during his lifetime, the funeral will be held as a film industry funeral jointly hosted by the foundation and The Korea Film Actors Association. The funeral rites will be held at 6 a.m. on the 9th, and the burial site is Byeolgeurida in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
In particular, at the funeral parlor room 31 at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital where the empty bier was set up on the 5th, fellow actors Jung Woosung and Lee Jung-jae, who are also heads of Ahn Sung-ki's agency Artist Company, are greeting mourners together with the family. Meanwhile, the government also posthumously awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, Gold Crown, in recognition of the deceased's contributions to the development of Korean cinema.
Ahn Da-bin is the eldest of Ahn Sung-ki's two sons and is active as a western-style painter and installation artist.
