Singer Hong Kyung-min left a heartfelt message mourning actor Ahn Sung-ki.
On the 6th, Hong Kyung-min recalled the deceased through his channel, saying, "Among senior Ahn Sung-ki's films, my favorite work was 'Radio Star.'" He wrote, "It is a masterpiece that so well portrayed the reality of a singer and a manager; I don't know how many tears I shed watching it."
In particular, Hong Kyung-min mentioned the film's ending scene and said it left a deep impression. He said, "I cannot forget the scene where, in the pouring rain, someone holds up an umbrella to shelter the singer while getting wet himself," and "That image, of someone who thought of the singer before himself until the end, resembled the late senior's character, and I believe he lived in that way enough for the film industry."
He also candidly shared his feelings at the moment he heard the obituary. Hong Kyung-min said, "I received the news late today and got a condolence text sent by his son," and added, "Thinking that he probably contacted fellow entertainers saved in the deceased's phone, I was suddenly shocked as if I had been hit."
He continued, "Many years ago we exchanged contact information at an event and exchanged greetings a few times, but I couldn't keep in touch for a long time. In the meantime my number changed," and recalled, "We weren't that close, and I hadn't been in contact for a long time, but at the group text saying the younger junior's number had changed, it seemed he had kindly saved the new number himself, which made my heart hurt more."
Hong Kyung-min said, "I regret a little that I couldn't bring myself to contact the master first for fear of being a nuisance and thus become closer," and honored the deceased, saying, "I once heard that Ahn Sung-ki was always the first to arrive at meeting places without ever running a red light. With such an outstanding elder in the film industry, Korean cinema could not have failed to develop."
Finally, he conveyed his deep condolences, saying, "I sincerely pray for his peace and pray again."
Meanwhile, Ahn Sung-ki was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019 and was declared cured after treatment, but later continued to battle a relapse. The deceased collapsed at his home on Dec. 30 last year after food became lodged in his throat and received treatment in an unconscious state before passing away on the 5th. He was 74.
