Actor Im Hyun-sik inhaled pesticide and nearly died, then survived.
On the May 5 broadcast of MBN 'Body Insight', Im Hyun-sik appeared and talked. MC In Gyo-jin chose Im Hyun-sik's keyword as 'narrow escape'.
Im Hyun-sik said, "I was completely scolded. Rather than saying I died and came back to life, I was almost dead and then I lived. On the way home after finishing filming I had chest pain. The pain kept continuing. Because I was alone, I was worried I might not be able to get up, so I went to the emergency room. After tests I was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction. I immediately underwent a heart stent insertion procedure," he said.
He also said, "There were a few apple trees at my house, and apple trees need to be sprayed often. While I was wearing a mask and spraying disinfectant I suddenly felt dizzy. My head became heavy and the sensation was strange," he said.
He continued, "It didn't seem like I had collapsed, but the neighbors said I had collapsed. They immediately called 119 and I went to the hospital. I went to the hospital emergency room. I survived thanks to the neighbors. If not, I think I would have died. When I opened my eyes I could see the ceiling fluorescent light, and thousands of ants were crawling beside the light. I also experienced that kind of strange hallucination," he confessed.
A specialist said, "If pesticide is inhaled during weeding work, the lungs and airways are immediately affected. That can cause coughing, shortness of breath and dizziness. In severe cases it can lead to acute poisoning symptoms. Over time there is a risk of chronic sequelae such as reduced lung function, chronic respiratory disease, nervous system damage, headaches and muscle weakness," he said.
