Actor the late Ahn Sung-ki's eldest son, Ahn Da-bin, expressed gratitude on behalf of the bereaved family as they said goodbye to his father.
On the 5th, Ahn Da-bin posted a photo of white chrysanthemums on his social media and wrote, "I sincerely thank you for your warm condolences."
Ahn Sung-ki married sculptor Oh So-young, a 1985 graduate of Ewha Womans University, and they had two sons. The first son, Ahn Da-bin, showed an interest in art and debuted as a painter in the United States in 2006. The second son, Ahn Philip, was interested in photography and was admitted to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago on a full scholarship.
The two sons were staying in the United States when they received word that their father was in critical condition, hurried back to Korea and were at his deathbed.
The deceased passed away that morning at 9 a.m. at Soonchunhyang University Hospital's intensive care unit in Yongsan District, Seoul, while family members watched. He was 74.
The wake was set up in funeral room 31 at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and the chief mourners listed were his wife Oh So-young and the two sons. With visits starting at 1 p.m., Jung Woosung and Lee Jung-jae received mourners alongside the chief mourners, and people continued to come to pay their respects.
The late Ahn Sung-ki's funeral will be held as a "film industry funeral" for five days. Actors who had long respected him, including Lee Byung-hun, Lee Jung-jae, Jung Woosung and Park Chul-min, are expected to carry the casket and see him off on his final journey. The funeral procession will be held at 6 a.m. on the 9th, and the burial site is Yangpyeong Byeolgeurida. In addition, a public memorial space will be set up at the Seoul Film Center through the 8th.
