Two days after the death of actor the late Ahn Sung-gi, tributes to him continue.
The late Ahn Sung-gi died on the morning of the 5th at 9 a.m. while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan District, Seoul, with his family watching. He was 74.
A wake has been set up in funeral hall room 31 at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and the chief mourners listed include his wife, Oh So-young, and his two sons. The late Ahn Sung-gi's funeral will be held as a "film industry" funeral for five days. Actors who had long respected him, including Lee Byung-hun, Lee Jeong, Jung Woosung, and Park Chul-min, will carry the coffin to see him off on his final path.
After the death of the great star of Korean cinema, the late Ahn Sung-gi, many people are mourning him, from entertainment industry colleagues who had ties with him to juniors who respected him.
Singer Kwon Jin-won said on the 5th, "My chest is heavy… warm words and smiles... Senior Ahn Sung-gi, the big older brother in my heart, I will always remember the beautiful times we shared. Rest peacefully in a good place. I pray for your soul." He added, "With respect and love, sincerely from Jin-won," and released photos taken while the late Ahn Sung-gi was alive.
Actor Hwang Shin-hye said with respect, "Rest in peace~~~ Being able to make films together on the same set and in front of the same camera was a great honor in my life." She continued, "Thank you for being a pillar of Korean cinema for a long time. I will not forget the moments we shared. I hope you are at peace there. I sincerely respected you. I offer my deepest condolences to the deceased."
Hwang Shin-hye worked with the late Ahn Sung-gi in several productions. They co-starred in films such as "Our Happy Young Days," "Dream," and "Comedian."
Actor Cho Seong Ha expressed his respect, saying, "I offer my deepest condolences. Senior Ahn Sung-gi has gone to heaven. It is such a heartbreaking thing. Although I was never given the honor of working on a project with him, he was an actor I always respected and loved."
He added, "Every time we briefly crossed paths at film festivals, you would greet me with a warm smile and show your pleasure — that image was so cool.. I am still grateful and thankful. Thank you for many great works," and mourned, "Rest peacefully there."
Actor Jung Eun-pyo recalled, "Respected senior Ahn Sung-gi, I first met you in 1999 at the film Kilimanjaro's first shooting location in Jumunjin. When I arrived at the Jumunjin lodging with a trembling heart at the thought of acting with the greatest actor I admired, I greeted you and you smiled brightly — that expression is still vivid in my mind."
He also said, "Throughout the shoot, the way you kept the set relaxed and warm felt like the friendly neighbor next door, but the strong gaze that changed when you acted in front of the camera is something I still cannot forget. Among the many films the senior appeared in, it was an honor to be part of even one. I was very grateful and will never forget it (I offer my deepest condolences to the deceased)."
Jung Bo-seog mourned, "When I was a novice actor I once asked, 'Hyung, every day is uncertain and anxious for me; when will this anxiety end?' You replied, 'I'm still anxious too, but isn't that anxiety a destiny that any actor must carry for life?' and you became a guiding figure in my acting path. You were another great teacher in my heart, Ahn Sung-gi hyung. It is too early for you to leave, and it is so heartbreaking, but go peacefully. I pray that you will not be in pain there and that you will simply be at peace."
Meanwhile, the funeral procession will be conducted at 6 a.m. on the 9th, and the burial site is Yangpyeong Byeolgeurida.
