Singer Kim Sungkyu successfully concluded the musical "Death Note."
Kim Sungkyu successfully wrapped up his approximately three-month run in the musical "Death Note" with the final performance on the 4th at Seoul D Cube L.I.N.C Art Center.
The musical "Death Note," adapted from the Japanese manga of the same name, depicts the breathless battle of wits between genius high school student Light, who obtains the shinigami's notebook "Death Note" and seeks to purge society's evils to realize justice, and the great detective L (L) who pursues him.
Kim Sungkyu played the role of the great detective L (L), who opposes Light, in "Death Note." As his high synchronicity with L (L) had consistently placed his name on virtual casting lists, news of his appearance in "Death Note" drew a heated response from musical fans.
Stepping onto the stage amid fans' fervent expectations, Kim Sungkyu perfectly recreated the look with intense smoky makeup, disheveled hair and a loose white T-shirt, astonishing viewers with a chilling visual synchronicity with L (L).
Kim Sungkyu portrayed scenes as if he had stepped out of the original, roaming the stage freely barefoot with a stooped posture like a fish in water. With a piercing gaze that seemed to see through everything, he depicted the multifaceted nature of L (L), who possesses an extraordinary brain and deductive skills, in a richly dimensional performance that showed a deep interpretation of the work and character.
As the "K-pop legend" leader and main vocalist of INFINITE, he generously displayed solid yet clean vocal power, proving his upgraded capabilities as a musical actor and eliciting explosive cheers and applause from the audience.
After finishing the final performance of the musical "Death Note" amid fervent cheers, Kim Sungkyu said through his agency Billions, "'Death Note' is a truly precious work to me. The excitement I felt when I first encountered L (L) and the countless worries are still vivid. I fiercely immersed myself in how to present my own L (L) on stage each performance, and thanks to the warm attention and love you all gave me, I was able to continue happy performances."
He added, "I thank the audience who trusted and supported me and my fellow actors and staff who sweated together for the best stage. Because of you, Kim Sungkyu's L (L) could be completed. I sincerely thank everyone who joined us once again, and I will not forget that love and will greet you with an even better side going forward," raising expectations for his future activities.
Meanwhile, Kim Sungkyu is scheduled to perform at "2026 FIRST MUSIC STATION" to be held at KINTEX in Ilsan on Feb. 1, where he is expected to prove his status as the "festival powerhouse".
