Singer Sohyang expressed her feelings after the New Year countdown performance.
Sohyang covered Hentrics' "Golden," the OST for "K-pop Demon Hunters," with Youngbin and Park Hye-won (HYNN) at KBS' "2026 Countdown Show Light Now," held in front of a giant media facade in the Myeong-dong area of Jung-gu, Seoul, from 11 p.m. on the 31st of last month.
Although the introduction began with Youngbin, Sohyang's first note was somewhat unstable. Her pitch was off and wavering, and the stage continued with that unease. Sohyang's distinctive timbre was heard before the harmonies, and viewers watching the live performance responded with comments such as "dissonance." However, she gradually found stability toward the latter part, and by the end some of Sohyang's characteristic vocal power had returned.
Reactions were mixed after the performance video was posted on KBS' YouTube channel. Comments such as "it was too much," "a major disaster happened," and "I was shocked watching the live broadcast" followed, and Sohyang herself, seeming to recognize this, left a comment saying, "That's right. I ruined it all. I'm also very disappointed."
In addition, Sohyang posted a longer statement about the "Golden" live controversy in the description of a video on her YouTube channel on the 4th. She wrote, "Golden… I was really bad," and added, "Ah, this voice belongs to God. When I used it for my own greed, I had no choice but to be incompetent." She continued, "It was an opportunity to resolve once again to be humbly used as the Lord's instrument," and asked people to "pray for me."
Sohyang also referred to the biblical story of Jacob, saying, "God loves Jacob but trains him and transforms him into the Lord's person," and added, "Please look forward to the journey ahead."
