The global audition project from SBS seeking Asia's best voice, 'Veiled Cup,' will premiere on Jan. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
Previously, 'Veiled Musician' aired on Netflix and showed the process of selecting representative vocalists from various Asian countries, including Korea, China, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia and Laos, while 'Veiled Cup' is an expanded version in which each country's top three clash in Korea to wage a vocal war for national pride.
Because it determines Asia's top vocalists, the judging lineup for 'Veiled Cup' has become even more spectacular. Singer Tiffany Young, who is also active as an actress, Korea's representative singer-songwriter 10CM (Kwon Jung-yeol), all-around entertainer Henry, i-dle's Miyeon, and singers Ailee and Paul Kim, who served as judges on the Korean edition of 'Veiled Musician,' join the panel, and actress Lee Da-hee, who drew attention as a music entertainment MC on programs such as 'Queendom' and 'Road to Kingdom,' will serve as sole host.
Director Lee Hong-hee, who oversaw production, said, "It was truly amazing to see each country's top three selected in the same format and method across nine Asian countries from their local finals. There were many participants with distinctive vocals in each country, and the silhouettes were diverse, so I was very excited about 'Veiled Cup.'"
The director added, "The performances by the participants gathered in Korea exceeded expectations. They ranged from contestants delivering K-pop with perfect Korean pronunciation to those singing songs from their own countries. Although the languages were different, I felt emotions conveyed through music and once again felt the power that music gives. Also, because vocalists representing each country came together in one place, there were subtle checks and psychological battles, and fitting the title of an international competition, you can look forward to seeing which country will produce the winner."
