'Newsroom' singer Im Jae-beom, marking his 40th anniversary since debut, for the first time revealed his decision to retire along with a new song.
Im Jae-beom appeared on Newsroom, which aired on the 4th, to first unveil a song from his eighth full-length album and share his recent status. About the new song 'LIFE IS DRAMA,' he said, "It's a resolute song similar to the signature song 'Visang,'" and "It's a song I want to give hope to all citizens. Personally, I think of it as 'Visang 2,'" he said affectionately.
He then personally explained the meaning of the 40th anniversary concert title 'I am Im Jae-beom.' Im Jae-beom said, "It means that I was Im Jae-beom before, now, and will be Im Jae-beom in the future," and "an expression that I will always be Im Jae-beom." He added, "At concerts I always say the audience are the protagonists. There is a time when audience members shout out their own names, but haven't they rarely called their own names?" and "I wanted to shout my name to give them self-esteem."
Before going on stage, he gave an honest answer about his personal routine. He said, "I tremble before a performance. I only act like I'm not trembling," and "the staff try hard to calm me down." He continued, "Before going on stage I pray to be able to give joy to the audience and to sing my best," and "then I go on stage and give everything."
In particular, the broadcast that day delivered Im Jae-beom's retirement declaration and caused a strong reaction. Asked about future activity plans, he said, "I'm confessing this for the first time through 'Newsroom,'" and began, "I have to tell you something sad." He went on, "I've thought about it a lot and for a long time. I plan to leave the stage after this 40th anniversary concert," surprising viewers.
Asked about the reason for deciding to retire, Im Jae-beom said, "It's an issue I've been thinking about for a long time," and "I want to burn everything for myself one last time." He said calmly, "I thought it was my duty to fans to step down while I could still sing on stage," and added, "There is also the saying 'leave while the applause is still happening.' I judged that leaving now would be best, so I put the microphone down."
Im Jae-beom's confession as he prepares for an end on his 40th year since debut leaves a deep resonance, drawing even greater interest to his remaining 40th anniversary performances.<
