'Hangout With Yoo' comedian Lee Kyung-kyu revealed the full story behind the 'drug driving' controversy.
On the afternoon of the 3rd, the MBC entertainment program 'Hangout With Yoo' aired an episode titled 'entertainment lend new year greetings.'
That day Yu Jae-seok, HaHa, Joo Woo-jae and Heo Kyunghwan visited 'entertainment lend' Lee Kyung-kyu to offer New Year's greetings. They performed a formal New Year's bow, listened to Lee Kyung-kyu's words of blessing and his outlook for entertainment in 2026, and spent a meaningful time. In particular, while talking with junior entertainers, Lee Kyung-kyu mentioned last year's drug driving controversy, drawing attention.
During his words of blessing, Lee Kyung-kyu said, "Last year I almost flew away big time. I reflected," and revealed the full story behind last year's drug driving controversy. He added, "I was trying to continue 'yangshim refrigerator,' but because I was caught driving under the influence of drugs my heart is heavy."
Earlier, on July 8, he was handed over to the prosecution without detention on charges of driving a car in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul while taking prescribed medication. Lee Kyung-kyu's lawyer said, "Lee Kyung-kyu has suffered from panic disorder for 10 years and had taken prescribed medication the day before the incident. However, his condition worsened that day and he drove himself to the hospital. As a result, it was an inexcusable act of carelessness, and he feels deep responsibility."
Lee Kyung-kyu then personally revealed the full story behind the drug driving controversy. He said, "Various articles went out saying I went to the golf course to practice, but that's not true. I went to the hospital to get an injection," and added, "I woke up in the morning and it hurt so much. I went with my wife, but she didn't open the door so I slept at home and went again. I felt sorry to ask my wife to go again and I couldn't ask the manager to come, could I?"
He continued, "I went to the hospital, got one injection, and felt so sick with flu-like symptoms that I was dizzy. The car looked exactly like my car. I got in the car; the model was the same and the engine started. So I went," he explained. He said his severe flu-like condition caused him to confuse cars of the same model.
Yu Jae-seok also revealed a conversation they had, saying, "I called him and he said he learned a lot from this incident. 'People in our line of work are watched by many, so it's right for me to be careful. I have nothing more to say,' he said."
That day Lee Kyung-kyu said he had never done a regular program with Yu Jae-seok and expressed his desire to work together, attracting attention. Saying he would like to broadcast with Yu Jae-seok, Lee Kyung-kyu said, "So I thought of 'You Quiz on the Block.'"
Lee Kyung-kyu's candid remarks surprised the members, and he added, "If I fill that gap and get various things in order, then I'll step aside." Yu Jae-seok, surprised, said, "I didn't expect you to think of 'You Quiz.' It's very fresh."
