HYBE and Geffen Records' joint girl group KATSEYE has once again captured the hearts of music fans worldwide, signaling a surge in popularity.
On the 3rd (local time), according to Spotify's latest chart, KATSEYE's new song 'Internet Girl (인터넷 걸)' ranked 6th on the U.S. Daily Top Songs and 13th on the Global Daily Top Songs the previous day. It was streamed about 2.87 million times on Spotify in a single day. This is the group's highest first-day streaming record among their releases.
Although not KATSEYE's official promotional track but a 'Fan Favorite Track,' its momentum is fierce. Through the second EP 'BEAUTIFUL CHAOS (뷰티풀 카오스)' tracks 'Gabriela (가브리엘라)' and 'Gnarly (날리),' they expanded their global popularity, firmly establishing themselves as next-generation pop stars, showing their greatly increased influence.
'Internet Girl' features flashy dance-pop sounds and a highly addictive hook. The lyrics, which wittily respond to the various gazes and reactions poured out in the online world, are also impressive, and critics say KATSEYE's distinctive cheerful charm stands out.
A signature choreography point in which members quickly change facial expressions by covering and then uncovering their faces spread rapidly on social media, driving the song's popularity. Dubbed the "emoji dance" among fans, many short-form videos expanding or imitating that performance segment have appeared in large numbers on TikTok and Instagram, receiving explosive response.
Alongside the success of 'Internet Girl,' existing hit songs have shown signs of climbing the charts again. 'Gabriela,' released in June last year, rose 38 places to No. 14 this week on Spotify's 'Weekly Top Songs Global' compared with the previous week. 'Gnarly' also reentered the same chart at No. 191.
After passing through the audition project based on the 'K-pop methodology,' 'The Debut: Dream Academy,' which debuted in the United States in June 2024, KATSEYE is cited as a representative success case of the 'multi-home, multi-genre' strategy led by HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk.
They placed 'Gnarly' and 'Gabriela' on the U.S. Billboard main song chart 'Hot 100,' and the EP 'BEAUTIFUL CHAOS,' which includes the two songs, reached No. 4 on the 'Billboard 200.' KATSEYE is also nominated for the 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' categories at the 68th Grammy Awards next month.
