Hwang Hana, the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products who was arrested by police while fleeing abroad on drug charges and is the former fiancée of singer and actor Park Yuchun, was handed over to the prosecution.
On the 2nd, the Gwacheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province sent Hwang Hana to the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Anyang Branch on charges of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics.
Hwang Hana left the detention center of the Anyang Dongan Police Station that afternoon and boarded a transport vehicle heading to the Prosecution Service. She will be held at Seoul Detention Center while being investigated by prosecutors.
Hwang Hana is accused of injecting methamphetamine into two other people, including acquaintances, using a syringe in Gangnam, Seoul, in July 2023.
While under police investigation on drug charges, Hwang Hana fled to Thailand in December of the same year. Because her overseas escape prevented the police from continuing the investigation, last May they requested a blue notice from Interpol to locate her and invalidated her passport.
After that, it was reported that Hwang Hana illegally entered and stayed in Cambodia by unknown means. She was later reported in October to be living a lavish life in Cambodia.
Meanwhile, Hwang Hana's lawyer recently expressed an intention to voluntarily appear to the police, and the police initiated arrest procedures.
The police went to Cambodia, coordinated with local consular officials, took custody of Hwang Hana and executed an arrest warrant inside a national carrier at Phnom Penh Techo International Airport. Hwang Hana entered Korea through Incheon International Airport at 7:50 a.m. on the 24th and was questioned at the Gwacheon Police Station. She is reported to have denied the charges.
Hwang Hana drew attention because she is the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products and the former partner of singer and actor Park Yuchun.
Hwang Hana was detected on charges that from May to June and in September 2015 she used methamphetamine three times at her home in Yongsan District, Seoul, and on charges of illegally taking two medications in April 2018 that contained the clonazepam ingredient, a psychotropic drug. However, while serving a suspended sentence she was again prosecuted on drug use charges and received a 1 year and 8 month sentence and was released in 2022.
Hwang Hana was also booked last year on suspicion of using drugs in 2023 during the investigation into drugs involving late actor Lee Sun-kyun.
