When the cumulative salaries of retired baseball player Oh Seung-hwan were revealed, Jun Hyun-moo could not hide his surprise.
On the 2nd episode of MBN variety show Jun Hyun-moo plan 3 aired on the 2nd, KwakTube and Jun Hyun-moo were shown meeting baseball players Oh Seung-hwan and Won Tae-in.
That day, Jun Hyun-moo greeted them warmly as soon as he saw the two players, saying "Daegu's superstars." Later at the meal, Jun Hyun-moo said, "I'll ask one question that could be motivating for Won Tae-in," and asked, "Oh Seung-hwan experienced Korea, the U.S. and Japan — roughly how much is his cumulative salary?"
Oh Seung-hwan replied cautiously, "It's not that much. I haven't calculated it. If you search, it comes up right away." Jun Hyun-moo immediately searched on his smartphone, and after seeing the number 'cumulative salary 28.8 billion won' appear on the screen, he was at a loss for words and put down his phone, drawing laughter.
Seeing this, Kwak Jun-bin reacted, "Isn't that game money?" and close colleague Won Tae-in added, "Maybe it's been slightly reduced," turning the scene into a sea of laughter.
Oh Seung-hwan also revealed the realistic difficulties that come with a high salary. He said, "When salary contracts are made public and get media attention, I get a lot of phone calls," and added with a bitter smile, "Rather than congratulatory calls, people call saying they're having a hard time."
Meanwhile, Oh Seung-hwan began his career with the Samsung Lions and played for Japan's Hanshin Tigers and SoftBank Hawks, and Major League Baseball's St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays and Colorado Rockies. He is the fourth player in KBO League Samsung Lions history to have his number retired; he closed out five of the team's eight total championships as the finishing pitcher, and recently announced his retirement.<
