"After School alum and actress Nana suffered the shocking harm of a home intrusion by a robber, and it has emerged that she was even countersued by the perpetrator, fueling public anger and sorrow."
On the 2nd, agency Sublime said in an official statement, "The intruder, armed with a weapon, caused serious physical and psychological harm to actress Nana and her family, and that pain is ongoing," and added, "Nevertheless, the perpetrator, showing no remorse, filed a separate lawsuit against actress Nana, causing secondary harm." It went on to strongly criticize the act as "an inhumane act that abused the victim's celebrity."
Nana's side made it clear that they will respond with all possible civil and criminal legal measures.
Earlier, Nana experienced an incident last November in which a robber armed with a weapon broke into her home. Nana and her mother subdued the robber after a struggle, but in the process the mother suffered a choking injury that led to a loss of consciousness. Police determined the situation to be self-defense and did not book Nana and her mother.
The problem came after the incident. In a recently released Harper's Bazaar Korea video, Nana took out a personal safety spray from her bag and said, "After going through such a major incident, I desperately felt that 'only I can protect myself.'" She said, "I hope I never have to use it, but it's an essential item to protect myself in case of a possible dangerous situation," cautiously describing the reality.
The remark shows the depth of the psychological shock Nana experienced. It means that the place that should have been the safest, her home, was shattered, and as a result she lives with anxiety to the extent that she must carry self-defense items at all times.
When news emerged that the perpetrator had countersued in that situation, online reactions followed such as, "The fact that someone broke into her home is already a crime, so a countersuit is absurd," "Why should the victim have to fight again?", and "It seems she is put in a harsher situation because she is famous." Many especially expressed anger, saying, "It is an act that inflicts further wounds on a victim whose trauma is so severe that she carries self-defense items."
