Kwon Mina, formerly of AOA, became the center of attention from the first day of the new year. After a suicide attempt and dramatic rescue, she confessed the harsh storms she endured, mentioning family issues in her childhood and bullying within AOA, and declared war on malicious commenters. OSEN reporting revealed that before the suicide attempt she had canceled schedules due to psychological distress.
On the 1st, Kwon Mina became the center of attention. In the early morning she posted on her social account, "When I hanged myself I couldn't breathe and my vision blurred and after that I don't remember. It means I lost consciousness. If I had been left a little longer I really could have kept my promise today but suddenly I heard some sound and they shook me. My consciousness kept going in and out so inside I begged.. begged.. and yet I was rescued again. I became like the boy who cried wolf, but I will definitely keep my promise to disappear in front of your eyes," she wrote.
Kwon Mina, who left the group AOA in 2019 and later posted accusations that she had been bullied. After that, amid controversies including claims of nurse abuse of power, allegations of urging a transfer breakup, an apology via an SNS live broadcast, and questions over sincerity during explanations, she faced criticism and took time to apologize and reflect.
After working as a dermatology consultation Deputy Minister and recently signing an exclusive contract with Modenberry Korea and announcing a solo fan meeting, Kwon Mina unexpectedly terminated the contract after one month. Even so, she vowed to give fans a good performance and rekindled her will to promote.
About 20 days before the solo fan meeting, Kwon Mina shocked people with an attempted suicide. Rescued dramatically after about two hours, Kwon Mina left a long post that, with a self-deprecating tone of regret, recounted her father's domestic violence in childhood and severe financial hardship, group assaults and sexual assault in her youth, and bullying by fellow members during her idol activities.
Before the suicide attempt, Kwon Mina is reported to have complained of psychological pain caused by malicious commenters. OSEN reporting also found that before attempting suicide she had scheduled commitments but unilaterally canceled them and cut off contact. Through SNS the suicide attempt and dramatic rescue were revealed, and although the exclusive contract was terminated, Modenberry Korea, which is still carrying out management duties related to Kwon Mina's schedule and activities, said "the fan meeting scheduled for the 23rd will proceed as planned."
Kwon Mina has launched a war against malicious commenters. Modenberry Korea said, "Recently, malicious slander, personal attack comments and the spreading false information targeting Kwon Mina have been continuously occurring on SNS. We judge these to be clearly illegal acts and are collecting related evidence and will proceed with strong legal measures without leniency," adding, "malignant comments and indiscriminate speculative remarks that go beyond freedom of expression are causing serious psychological harm to the person involved," and "we will respond strictly under the same standards to similar cases in the future."
Meanwhile, Kwon Mina's first solo fan meeting will be held on the 23rd at H-Stage in Seogyo-dong, Mapo District, Seoul.
