Actor Ahn Sung-ki's sudden hospitalization after cardiac arrest shocked many, and his son in the United States is returning to Korea to see his father.
Earlier, Ahn was found in cardiac arrest around 4 p.m. on the 30th after collapsing at his home with food stuck in his throat. He was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), taken to the emergency room of a hospital near his home, and was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit. He, who had been battling a recurrence of blood cancer, was reported to be in critical condition.
In this regard, a representative of his agency, Artist Company, told OSEN, "Senior Ahn Sung-ki was transported to the hospital after a sudden deterioration in his health and is currently receiving treatment under the care of medical staff," issuing an official statement.
They added, "We are confirming the exact condition and future course based on the judgment of the medical staff," and said, "We ask that you prioritize the stability of the actor and his family, and if there are additional developments we will announce them through official channels."
One media outlet reported that Ahn passed the critical moment and his heart started beating again but he did not regain consciousness, but the agency was tight-lipped. Above all, a representative of the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation, of which Ahn is chairman, drew attention by saying, "He has passed the most dangerous situation we had feared. His heart has started beating, but he has not regained consciousness and is being treated while on a respirator."
However, Ahn's agency told OSEN, "It is not yet a stage or situation where we can officially comment on improvement," showing a cautious response.
According to actual insiders, only some immediate family members are watching over Ahn's current condition and health, and they are waiting for the medical staff's exact assessment. Since he was transported to the hospital and is receiving treatment, precise results are expected to take time.
In particular, Ahn's son, who had been staying in the United States, is known to be urgently returning home due to his father's critical health condition.
Ahn married sculptor Oh So-young, a graduate of Ewha Womans University, in 1985 and they had two sons. Ahn was considerate that being known as "Ahn Sung-ki's sons" might be burdensome, and the two sons went abroad to study. The eldest son, Ahn Da-bin, showed interest in art and debuted as a painter in the United States in 2006. The younger son, Ahn Philip, was interested in photography and entered the School of the Art Institute of Chicago on a full scholarship.
The two sons, who were staying in the United States, received the news in Korea and are currently returning home urgently.
