Singer and actor IU and actor Lee Jong-suk made for a warm year-end by donating 200 million won and 100 million won respectively.
IU's agency EDAM Entertainment said on the 31st, "IU donated a total of 200 million won in the name of "IU Aena" (IU+U-aena) to mark the year-end." This donation will be used to support various vulnerable groups, including single mothers, young people preparing for independence, people with disabilities and the elderly.
The donations of 50 million won each were delivered to the Korea Association of Single Mothers and Families, the National Center for the Rights of the Child, the Hearing Tree of Love (Sarang-ui Dalpaengi), and the Wooyang Foundation. The donations will be used for support for single mothers who are experiencing economic and social difficulties, to provide initial funds for children leaving care to become independent, to support cochlear implant surgeries and hearing aids for people with hearing impairments, and to provide food support for elderly people at risk of going hungry during winter.
IU has consistently donated in the name of "IU Aena" on meaningful days every year such as her debut anniversary, her birthday and year-end and New Year holidays, spreading positive influence. In March this year she donated 200 million won to support the large-scale wildfire damage in the Gyeongsang region and to improve firefighters' working conditions; on Children's Day she donated 150 million won for children and adolescents; and she donated 200 million won each for vulnerable groups on her birthday and debut anniversary, practicing warm sharing.
Her partner Lee Jong-suk announced his donation on the 30th. According to his agency Ace Factory, actor Lee Jong-suk donated 50 million won each as a hospital development fund and a fund to support patients from vulnerable groups to Asan Medical Center, delivering a total of 100 million won.
Lee Jong-suk's donation will be used to build advanced treatment systems to provide a better treatment environment for cancer patients at Asan Medical Center and to support medical and surgical expenses for patients from vulnerable groups.
Following his donation of 100 million won to Asan Medical Center's children's hospital in 2023, Lee Jong-suk has continued to express his warm heart through Asan Medical Center for the third year by donating 100 million won in 2024 for children and patients from vulnerable groups.
Lee Jong-suk has consistently shown warm interest and support by personally checking places in need each year, from supporting young people preparing for independence to the Korean Medical Association Organization, international relief and development NGOs, and more. In March this year he also actively supported national disaster relief by donating 100 million won to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association to help residents affected by wildfires in Ulsan, North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang. Having continued steady donations in various fields, Lee Jong-suk once again spread positive influence with another act of sharing, ending the year warmly.
