Duo AKMU (Lee Chanhyuk, Lee Suhyun) is leaving YG's fold.
On the 31st, AKMU's Suhyun left a long post with album photos on her social account. Suhyun wrote, "I sincerely thank the many executives and staff who have been with us for 12 years, and YG, who always trusted and respected us. The YG family was my pride, and thanks to them I was truly happy. We are leaving for a new journey, but I will never forget it, always like a hometown in my heart!"
She continued, "Thank you so much for everything. I sincerely pray that you all stay healthy and happy," concluding her post.
AKMU are sibling singers who debuted through "K-pop Star." At the time, with a unique team composition, attention-grabbing tones and songs, and even perfect composing and songwriting skills, they seemed to have enough potential as singers, and after debuting they released acclaimed albums while enjoying continued success. The warm farewell between AKMU, who thought it was time to seek a new feeling, and YG, which supported that path, had been known officially all along.
Internet users showed various reactions such as, "They're really leaving YG," "Since Suhyun said she liked it, I won't add anything—become a singer who does many things you want to do in the future," and "SuHyun really grew up a lot."
Meanwhile, AKMU debuted in 2012 through the TV program "K-pop Star."
