Expectations were off, but the meaning ran deeper. The winner of the '2025 SBS Entertainment Awards' ultimately was Lee Sang Min.
At the 2025 SBS Entertainment Awards broadcast on the 30th, Lee Sang Min became the honored recipient of the grand prize.
First, Shin Dong-yeob, when asked "Who would you like to push for the entertainment award?" opened by saying, "I think it might come from someone who has never won the grand prize."
He mentioned Seo Jang-hoon and said, "He worked really hard at SBS but still hasn't received it," and about Lee Sang Min he observed, "Some say he was the one who canceled 'Dolsing Four Men,' but even so, if he receives the grand prize it will be meaningful." He added, "I think someone who has never won the grand prize will get it," and "I really hope Jee Seokjin gets it this year."
But the result was a reversal. The honor of the grand prize that day returned to Lee Sang Min, and immediately after the announcement he reacted as if he couldn't believe it, saying "No, no." Jee Seokjin coolly approached and added warmth by congratulating him with a hug.
In his acceptance remarks, Lee Sang Min candidly revealed his life story. He confessed, "When My Little Old Boy first aired, I started in a rented house without even an air conditioner. It was a life of struggling to get by," and said, "I never thought I would be able to pay off the many debts I thought I would never escape from by doing broadcasts." He continued, "'My Little Old Boy' is a second life. It let me live again," and said, "I lost my loving mother, and even that was captured on broadcast," which left the audience moved.
He also said, "I have worked quietly alone without a company. I felt this year was the most uncertain year," and stated, "I just did 'Dolsing Four Men' as I had prepared and enjoyed it, and I'm grateful for this chance. I will repay SBS for its lifelong favor."
Especially, Lee Sang Min moved the audience to tears with a heartfelt message to his wife. He said, "I put all the difficult moments behind me, and this year I married the person I love," and added, "I couldn't do anything after getting married. We couldn't have a wedding or a honeymoon, but the wife who cheered me on and loved me by my side is the one who should receive this award," earning great applause.
Finally, Lee Sang Min said, "You may wonder, 'Why did that person get it?' But I did my best," and vowed, "So that I don't burden SBS, where my whole life is stored, I will live a life more admirable than now. I will return all the blessings I received next year." He left a deep impression by offering a deep bow of thanks along with New Year greetings.
Lee Sang Min, who cleared 6.9 billion won in debt, endured the pain of losing his mother, and this year even announced his marriage. The grand prize that went to him felt like a reward for enduring the ups and downs of life beyond a simple trophy.
