With veteran actor Ahn Sung-ki transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest and his health worsening, his agency opened its mouth regarding some reports that he had "passed the critical phase," saying "it is not yet a stage to mention improvement."
On the afternoon of the 31st, Ahn Sung-ki's agency, Artist Company, told OSEN, "It is not yet a stage or situation where we can officially comment on improvement," expressing a cautious stance.
That day one media outlet reported that Ahn Sung-ki had passed the critical moment and his heart had started beating again, but he had not regained consciousness. Citing a representative of the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation, it claimed, "He has passed the most dangerous situation we feared. His heart has started beating, but he has not regained consciousness and is receiving treatment while on a ventilator."
However, according to a representative, only some immediate family members are watching over Ahn Sung-ki's current condition and health, and they are waiting for the medical staff's precise judgment. Because he was transported to the hospital and is receiving treatment, detailed results are expected to take time.
Earlier, on the afternoon of the 30th at around 4 p.m., Ahn Sung-ki collapsed at his home while eating, choking, and was found in cardiac arrest. He received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), was transported to the emergency room of a nearby hospital, and was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit. He, who had been battling a relapse of blood cancer, was reported to be in critical condition.
On this, a representative of his agency, Artist Company, issued an official statement to OSEN saying, "Senior Ahn Sung-ki was transported to the hospital due to a sudden deterioration in health and is currently receiving treatment under the care of medical staff."
They also added, "The exact condition and future course are being confirmed based on the medical staff's judgment," asking, "Please prioritize the actor's and his family's stability, and if any additional matters are confirmed, we will inform you through official channels."
Meanwhile, Ahn Sung-ki debuted at age 5 in director Kim Ki-young's 1957 film "Twilight Train" and stood out from his child actor days through works such as "Rebellion of the Teenager" and "The Housemaid." After a hiatus as an adult, he made a comeback with "Yasi" and "The Third Operation," and in the 1980s and 1990s solidified his status as a national actor with films such as "A Windy Good Day," "Whale Hunting," "The South Korean Army," "White War," and the "Two Cops" series. He later appeared in major works including "Silmido," "Radio Star," "Broken Arrow," and "Hansan: Rising Dragon," and is a triple crown winner who has swept the Blue Dragon Film Awards, Baeksang Arts Awards, and Grand Bell Awards for best actor, and the only actor to have won leading actor awards from the 1980s through the 2010s.
