'You Quiz on the Block' Heo Kyunghwan recalled the time he was scammed.
On the 31st broadcast, the tvN entertainment show 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereinafter 'YouQuiz') featured comedian Heo Kyunghwan, who marked his 19th anniversary since debut.
Heo Kyunghwan started a chicken breast business in 2010 while he was consolidating his position by producing catchphrases. About this he recalled, "It was one of the instinctive struggles to survive. It was during the Bonsunga academy era, and after workouts I was boiling chicken breast. Suddenly I thought I might not be able to do comedy for a long time. Colleagues had honed their skills before joining, they craft their comedy well, and I survived on catchphrases, so I wondered how I could earn a living."
He said he began thinking about a business around chicken breast. He explained the reason he started the business, saying, "There weren't many established brands. Even if I just started, wouldn't I rank at least fifth or sixth? Dieting seems like something people will pursue for life. I searched for factories and went around to check the taste. I went looking into it."
Because there were many smoked chickens at the time, Heo Kyunghwan decided to compose three flavors to suit Korean tastes: garlic, chili and original.
Heo Kyunghwan said, "I went around factories developing flavors. We needed to do tasting tests but had nowhere to do them, and one day 80 comedians caught my eye. They are people with very definite likes and dislikes. So I deliberately didn't say I was doing it and asked as if a senior I knew was doing it," adding, "I developed the flavors targeting 80 comedians."
Having become the CEO of a company with sales of 30 billion won, Heo Kyunghwan's joy was short-lived; during the company's growth period he suddenly became a victim of fraud. He said, "I mistakenly thought, 'I'm on broadcasts so they'll take care of it.' I should have checked carefully, but in the meantime that person had other ideas."
One day after receiving a call at the company, Heo Kyunghwan rushed to a comedians' golf gathering and there met people who were owed money from the factory. Heo Kyunghwan said he withdrew money from the bank however he could and gave part of it, saying, "I told them I'd sort it out somehow and give them the money. That was the beginning."
In other words, one of the partners took the money and Heo Kyunghwan was left with debt ranging from 2.7 billion to 3 billion won. Fortunately, he said he has now paid off the debt.<
