Broadcaster Park Soo-hong's wife, Kim Da-ye, welcomed the abolition of the "친족상도례" provision.
On the 30th, Kim Da-ye captured and posted articles reporting the repeal of the provision that allowed punishment for property crimes between relatives and said, "Soo-hong's dad who changed the country."
She added, "This is a case that changed the structure of Korea's Criminal Act beyond a personal case. Until now, the 친족상도례 was a fatal loophole that meant family members could embezzle hundreds of billions of won and not be punished," and she added, "The Park Soo-hong case was the first time the entire public saw how brutally that provision was abused in reality, and as a result the law moved to make it possible to punish property crimes between parents, siblings and children."
She explained that it was not about the grievance of one celebrity or a family's fight but "a case that brought the moral standard of the Criminal Act up to date."
Earlier, Park Soo-hong alleged that from 2011 to 2021 he suffered financial damage while his older brother and sister-in-law managed his management and in April 2021 he sued the older brother and sister-in-law on charges of embezzlement.
In the end, the older brother and sister-in-law were sentenced to prison and a suspended sentence on charges of embezzling tens of billions of won in appearance fees and other payments while running Park Soo-hong's agency, and they later appealed.
