Actor Ahn Seong-gi, who was battling a relapse of blood cancer, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and is in critical condition, while his agency is monitoring his progress.
On the 31st, a representative of Artist Company told OSEN, "Senior Ahn Seong-gi was transported to the hospital due to a sudden deterioration in his health and is currently receiving treatment under the care of medical staff."
The representative added, "The exact condition and future progress are being confirmed based on the judgment of the medical staff," and said, "We ask that you prioritize the stability of the actor and his family, and if any additional matters are confirmed, we will inform you through official channels."
Ahn made his debut in 1957 in director Kim Ki-young's "Twilight Train." Over the past 60 years he has appeared in about 200 films and has been beloved as a "national actor."
He was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019. He was declared cured the following year, but the cancer recurred during follow-up and he has continued to battle the disease.
