Former soccer player Jeong Dae-se admitted to a 4.6 billion won debt on a Japanese variety show.
Jeong Dae-se appeared on Fuji TV's variety program on the 29th and disclosed his debt.
He said on a program with a 1,000,000-yen prize (about 927,000 won) that he would "pay off the debt." In the past he had a 300,000,000-yen (about 270 million won) debt and paid back 50,000,000 yen (about 46 million won), but another debt of 250,000,000 yen (about 2.3 billion won) was additionally discovered.
However, Jeong Dae-se did not disclose the reasons why the debt occurred. Meanwhile, his wife, who appeared with Jeong Dae-se on the show, expressed embarrassment, saying, "This is the first time I heard on TV that there was a debt."
Jeong Dae-se is a Zainichi Korean born in Nagoya, Japan. He was born to a father with Korean nationality and a mother who retained Joseon nationality. During his career he played for North Korea's national team, appearing even at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and he also played in Germany.
He retired in 2023 and transitioned to broadcasting. He is active traveling between Japan and Korea.
