On Dec. 31, the last day of 2025, the film that uplifts humanity, "Sinui Akdan" (director Kim Hyung-hyeop | distributor: CJ CGV Co., Ltd. | production: Studio Target Co., Ltd.) finally meets audiences.
"Sinui Akdan" is a human drama that begins with the audacious imagination that an officer of North Korea's State Security Department organizes a fake praise troupe to earn foreign currency, and depicts the process in which those who deceived and were deceived communicate sincerely through music and change.
Director Kim Hyung-hyeop, who delivered empathy and laughter across generations with his previous work "Dad Is a Daughter," offers even deeper insight and warm consolation in this new film. Director Kim said, "All stories come from relationships," and noted, "We live with many misunderstandings about each other. To avoid getting hurt, we live with hard, rough hearts like a turtle shell, but the moment we understand the beautiful true feelings hidden inside, only then does emotion come."
The film focuses on the "real love" that blooms within the ironic setting of "North Korean soldiers, who do not have freedom of religion, form a praise troupe." A song that began as a fake becomes sincere, and cold gazes that monitored each other turn into warm solidarity, offering a profound resonance to modern people living in a harsh reality.
Especially, the majestic music resonating against the vast snowy plains of Mongolia, where temperatures dip below minus 40 degrees, is the film's highlight. Heart-stirring classics such as "Crossing the Wilderness," "Way Maker," and "Grace," as well as pop songs including Lim Young-woong's "Love Always Runs Away," come together to satisfy both the pleasure of listening and the emotion of watching. The music delights the ear, and as you excitedly follow the characters, you suddenly encounter a weighty emotion.
Actor Park Si-Hoo, returning to the screen after 10 years, anchors the story as the cool but humane North Korean officer Park Gyo-soon, and Jung Jin-woon, former member of the group 2AM, plays the sharp state security agent Kim Tae-seong, adding tension and immersion. In addition, a fantastic ensemble of veteran actors such as Tae Hang-ho, Seo Dong-won, Jang Ji-geon, Choi Sun-ja, and Moon Kyung-min completes a perfect harmony that moves between laughter and tears.
At a VIP preview held on the 29th, Park Si-Hoo, Jung Jin-woon, Tae Hang-ho and the 12 troupe members of "Sinui Akdan" attending said, "Showing the film on the last day of the year feels meaningful, like sharing another new beginning with the audience," and added, "We hope you spend the year-end and New Year with 'Sinui Akdan' and enjoy warm times with your loved ones." Many entertainment industry stars and celebrities attended the screening, including actors Jin Sun-kyu, Hwang Chan-sung, Lee Min-ki, Ji Seung-hyun, Lee Jin-hyuk, singer Jo Kwon, and comedian Song Joong-geun.
