Actors Shin Eun-kyung and comedian Lee Jin-ho were named this year on the list of major and habitual nonpayers of the four social insurance programs.
On the 30th, the National Health Insurance Service disclosed on its website and in the electronic gazette the personal details of 13,449 people who have failed to pay large amounts of insurance premiums for a long time, including 10,444 for health insurance, 2,424 for national pension and 581 for employment and industrial accident insurance.
The disclosure targets are those who, as of Dec. 31 last year, are delinquent on premiums past the payment deadline by one year and whose unpaid amounts meet the thresholds of 10 million won or more for health insurance premiums, 20 million won or more for national pension premiums, and 50 million won or more for employment and industrial accident insurance premiums.
The list attracted attention because it includes actor Shin Eun-kyung and comedian Lee Jin-ho. Shin Eun-kyung has been delinquent on 95.17 million won in health insurance premiums since Feb. 2014, and Lee Jin-ho has been delinquent on 28.84 million won in health insurance premiums since Apr. 2023.
The service selected 29,660 people to be disclosed at the first insurance information disclosure committee in March, gave them a statement period of more than six months, and at the second committee in December finalized the list of people to be disclosed after excluding those who paid, the deceased and beneficiaries, and those with no income or assets.
A service official said, "If a delinquent amount is paid and falls below the disclosure threshold, the person is immediately removed from the disclosure list, and we continuously manage the list of disclosed people," adding, "We will repeatedly inform people about the disclosure of personal details to encourage voluntary payment of delinquent insurance premiums."
