'Dynamite Kiss!' Director Kim Jae-hyun revealed the behind-the-scenes story about 'Ahn Eun-jin's commute outfit,' which became a hot topic.
Recently, director and screenwriter Kim Jae-hyun and writers Ha Yoon-ah and Tae Kyung-min, who directed and wrote SBS's Wednesday-Thursday drama 'Dynamite Kiss,' shared their feelings about finishing the work and their reflections in a written interview.
'Dynamite Kiss' is a work that portrays the bittersweet romance of a single woman who took a job pretending to be a mother to make ends meet and the team leader who fell in love with her, and it ended on the 25th. 'Dynamite Kiss' gained great popularity, earning evaluations that it successfully revived SBS weekday dramas and recording the No. 1 spot in weekday drama ratings for six consecutive weeks.
Regarding this, director Kim Jae-hyun said, I was somewhat dazed because we received more love than I expected. I especially did not know the overseas response would be this hot. As a director, I am truly grateful, he said.
Writers Ha Yoon-ah and Tae Kyung-min also said about the domestic and international global popularity, We didn't expect it, but we hoped for it, and added, I remember nervously praying when I heard it would be aired simultaneously on Netflix, Please... please..., and they expressed, We sincerely thank the viewers who cherished 'Dynamite Kiss.' It's truly moving!! Fighting!!
Director Kim Jae-hyun said the part he focused on most while directing 'Dynamite Kiss!' was, The principle of 'let's make an easy drama' was the most important, he confessed. He said, Without making viewers think, with no time to be bored, funny and heart-fluttering. I wanted to make a drama that even i-dle could understand. I tried to avoid flashy or complicated storyboards as much as possible. If expressed in sentences, I think I tried to convey the clearest emotions and story with the most childlike sentences, he said.
Writers Ha Yoon-ah and Tae Kyung-min, who wrote the script, said they had similar thoughts. Regarding lines that are intuitive and evoke excitement to the point of being praised as 'the epitome of familiar taste,' the two writers said, It was really, as you said, let's write 'intuitive and thrilling' lines! Simple, concise, words that make the body react before the head when heard! I dislike saying long, difficult, and clever things when dating. Sincerity is not conveyed by those things. The feeling of love is hottest when it is that obvious and childish lump even without embellishment, they said.
However, there was an unintended topic in the process. It was the commute outfit of Darim (played by Ahn Eun-jin) in the drama. Although she went to work wearing the clothes chosen by Ji-hyuk's mother In-ae (played by Nam Ki-ae), saying they matched Ji-hyuk's taste, viewers reacted with comments like, Is Darim going to a fan signing?, which provoked laughter.
Regarding this, director Kim Jae-hyun first apologized, I'm sorry. It was my pick, he said. Kim said, Actually there was a clear setting that Darim would go to work wearing Dajeong's outfit. In episode 3 there is a scene where Dajeong chooses clothes in her room and puts on her commute outfit, and Sun-woo fixes her makeup. We hesitated and deleted that scene, but I think that was a misjudgment. If that scene had existed, I think it would have been much easier to understand Darim's commute outfit, he expressed regret.
Director Kim Jae-hyun emphasized, I wanted to express very joyfully 'the desire of people in love to look handsome and pretty to the other person.' At that point I think I overdid it a bit. It wasn't Eun-jin's pick. It was my pick.
He continued, Although it's clothes even I don't wear while working at a company, I think I had that 'because it's a drama' perspective. I reflected a lot that if we had portrayed more precisely the situation where In-ae picks clothes according to her son's taste and Darim's reaction of 'Does Ji-hyuk like this?' when In-ae thrusts that outfit at her, this comedy could have been presented without discomfort. I'll do better next time!
