Legal disputes surrounding NewJeans member Danielle are intensifying. The agency ADOR is filing a lawsuit against Danielle seeking contractual penalties and damages.
ADOR said to OSEN on the 29th, "We notified Mr. Danielle this morning of the termination of the exclusive contract and plan to file a complaint for contractual penalties and damages today," in an official statement.
Regarding the reasons for terminating the exclusive contract, ADOR said, "It is difficult to speak in detail because further legal proceedings are expected," but added, "There were breaches of the exclusive contract, including entering into contracts that conflict with the exclusive contract, independent entertainment activities, and acts that damage the reputation or credit of the company and NewJeans. We demanded corrective action, but because correction was not made within the deadline, we notified the termination."
It declined to elaborate on the size of the contractual penalties and damages. ADOR said, "It is difficult to disclose the specific amount of damages," but added, "In the case of contractual penalties, we will calculate them based on the formula already specified in the exclusive contract."
Meanwhile, ADOR also disclosed the progress of consultations with NewJeans members that day. ADOR said, "Hanni visited Korea with her family and had lengthy, in-depth talks with ADOR," and added, "They reviewed past events and had time to view the matter objectively, and after sincere discussions decided to respect the court's ruling and remain with ADOR."
Min-ji is also continuing discussions with ADOR. By contrast, ADOR drew a line regarding Danielle. ADOR said, "In Danielle's case, we determined it is difficult for her to continue as a NewJeans member and as an ADOR artist," and emphasized, "We will also hold legally accountable one member of Danielle's family who bears significant responsibility for causing this dispute and for Danielle's departure from NewJeans and delayed return, as well as former CEO Min Hee-jin."
Lastly, ADOR said, "During the dialogue, we learned that members were exposed for a long time to distorted and biased information and developed many misunderstandings about the company, which led to the dispute," and added, "We agreed that to regain the love of fans and the public, even if it takes time, it is necessary to completely resolve misunderstandings based on accurate facts." It went on to add, "We will have an opportunity to address several controversies that emerged during the dispute at a later time, and we are currently discussing the timing and method."
With the announced lawsuit for contractual penalties and damages against Danielle, the NewJeans situation is expected to enter a prolonged legal battle. Danielle's termination of the exclusive contract scuttled a full-group comeback, but this extreme measure can also be seen as ADOR's decision to protect the remaining members of "NewJeans." Attention is focusing on the team's future activities.<
